  1. Hello People, I am in the process of buying an old but excellently built, fully balanced DAC with 4 chips 2 XLR and 2 RCA Outs and Optical and coaxial Ins. Its a used machine and I will get it at half its original price. The limitation is that it can handle up to 20 bits 48 Khz signals, assembled with best components from leading manufacturers. The designer maker of the unit, said to me that it will sound much better than any 24 bit DAC even if I down sample the signal from my computer/V-link to 20 bit/48 Khz. The new unit he can make for me will be 32 bit/ 192 Khz but it will cost double. Any thoughts will be more than welcome and much appreciated. Thanks, Farrukh
  2. I hear what you say about surround. But for the moment I am sticking to old-fashioned stereo, at least for music I am.
  3. This is a great site you have founded. I could never have been able to put together my rig had it not been for the information from this site. 4. Chris, Just something that I assume would be the ultimate list of equipment that I would like to have if I had this kind of money. No offense to anyone or meant to promote any specific brand. Just a combination of things that I have read about or heard from audiophiles in my country.I have never listened to this equipment performing as a combination. I have listened to the KRELLs with FOCAL floorstanders and Shunyata cables/connects and power conditioners. The B&Ws with Marantz (forgotten the model). Farrukh

  6. Yes, Scarpad. You are right in the sequencing of gadgets (V-link and V-DAC) if you want to play high res from your computer via USB. If your computer has a digital out (toslink or coaxial, then you can connect it directly to V-DAC. However, even if you play it through USB, you will hear marked improvement in quality. I am playing my high res files via WD HD Media Player connected to V-DAC through toslink. I have also connected my DVD player via coaxial and I connect my computer through USB. You have bought a good piece of equipment you won't be disappointed, no matter what you play with it. Farrukh
  7. My DVD player does not have an optical out. Plus I wanted to attach both the media player and the DVD player to V DAC. Is that a possibility? Farrukh
  8. I have attached my Cd player via coaxial connect (using Oehlbach RCA cable) and my WD Media Player via the Toslink connect. While the TOSLINK is giving excellent results, the coaxial, disappointingly, gives a horrible static sound. Can anyone help? Is it because of using RCA cable? Is it because the coaxial and Toslink cannot be connected at the same time? I have taken out the Toslink to check but the problem persists. Please help. I have spent 400 dollar already on the DAC, power supply and the cable connects.
  9. Thanks for the info. I have a WD TV HD Media Player. It has an optical out. Will connecting WD with V-DAC do the trick?
  10. Ray Viola Player, How do I confirm that using a USB connect from my laptop to V-DAC, I am getting 24bit/96 khz or 192khz output to my amplifier? Best, Farrukh
  11. Thank you for the responses, Viola Player and Kumakuma. I have checked with Amazon, both the cables have been sent to me by mistake. They have nothing to do with V-DAC. Kumakuma is right about what they are used for.
  12. By the way, the improvement in Audio quality is unbelievable. Its like rediscovering my hi res files all over again. It has cost me almost half the price of my NAD C355 but its well worth the price.
  13. Hello Everyone, I have recently received my MF V DAC from the US (I live in Pakistan). I ordered it from Amazon and a friend carried it to Pakistan for me. Upon receiving I could not wait to hook it up and listen to my favorite tunes. I put the power supply in the electrical socket without realizing that in Pakistan the voltage is 220 instead of 110 in the US. The result was the familiar burning smell that we amateur tinkerers are so familiar with. I took out an old power supply that I got with a cable modem I once used. I have two questions that I would be grateful to get answers for: 1. The power supply has an output of 12v, 1 amp, whereas the power supply that came with V-DAC was 12v, .5 amp. Will this decrease the life of the V-DAC? 2. In the package of V DAC, I got two cables that seem to have no used for the V DAC. I am attaching pictures of these cables. Can someone tell what these are for? Best, Farrukh
  14. Hi, Thanks for sharing your comments about C446. You are probably the only one who has played and listened to it. Where did you catch hold of it?Is it in the market? Which country? Thanks & regards, Farrukh
  15. NAD Electronics has recently announced the following: "In typical NAD fashion, we designed the C 446 Digital Media Tuner as a very uncommon music player—a gateway to your digital music sources and to the world’s best radio. Beneath the classic NAD chassis of the C 446 lays a uniquely powerful digital media player with Internet radio, FM/AM and DAB/DAB+ (where available). Included in its uncommon bag of tricks is the ability to stream your music collection from multiple networked storage devices using DLNA and Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) standards. Other great features include USB playback, Wi-Fi, an easy-to-use Internet radio portal and support for cloud music services, such as Last.fm." http://nadelectronics.com/products/tuners/C-446-Digital-Media-Tuner By the looks of it and being highly satisfied owner of a NAD C355 BEE stereo integrated amp coupled with KEF Q5 floorstanders, I am very excited to hear this news. Has any one had a listen to this device? Is it available in music equipment stores? Best, Farrukh
