Damien, It's not the kernal panic, but I did isolate the reason for the crashes. Just FYI, I'm running on a macbook pro 2.2ghz, 6gb ram, 10.6.6 through usb to the CEntrance DacPort- not top of the line, but hardly an old setup. with the activity monitor on, and playing with the settings, I realized that what's happening with the crashes is that while the song is preloading (?) - the grey bar beneath the play bar filling up - audirvana's CPU usage is reading around 200%. Once the song is fully loaded, it drops to around 10-20% depending on the extent and quality of the upsampling. But even with 2x only, lowest quality, I'm still getting 200% CPU usage for the first 10-20 seconds on regular length songs, while it loads, and this is when it usually crashes with the red CPU over flag. If I try to adjust the settings while it's at 200%, the program crashes every time. Hope this helps. Any ideas?

what does that have to do with anything? Ok, so I switched to "newest first" - that's almost as bad. When I'm at a forum like head-fi.org, it lists the last 10-20 posts. I understand that someone new to the forum would want to start at post #1, but after there's 1040 posts, why does everyone navigating to the forum have to start _again_ at 1, scroll all the way to the bottom, reload the last page, scroll down again, just seems a waste of time. Sorry if posting a kernel panic log is not appropriate - I don't program, didn't realize it would be of no help. I figured constant kernel panics on a regularly functioning setup would be something a software author would want to take pretty seriously.

why do forums start with the first post, often years ago, rather than the latest. This is simply retarded. Anyway, I had thought this problem went away, but it hasn't. Why is Audirvana so unstable when switching between sources? I have to be SO delicate when switching between DACs, like turn everything off, go to midi prefs, restart program change settings, check midi prefs again, reload queue, start up - oh no, CPU clipping again - quick, shut down before Kernal Panic sets in AGAIN - go over the prefs once again, reload everything, ok now finally it works. I mean, on Fidelia I can, in the middle of playing a song, simply switch from one DAC to another and it never crashes. It never even skips. What is it about Audirvana's code that make it so likely to crash whenever the audio prefs are changed? Thanks Ajax, so it's either something idiosyncratic in my chain or my (new) DacPort may have a problem? wondering how I could try to diagnose either case... I've basically given up on Audirvana for now - it's too buggy with the DacPort. When I use Fidelia, i can choose DacPort in the Fidelia prefs and for some reason the global midi prefs revert to "internal output" rather than the DacPort (and I can't change them), but it still plays beautifully without a hitch. Works with full upsampling or with none, no strain on CPU. Amarra doesn't upsample, but also works perfectly. Only Audirvana - all versions - seems to have this problem. I've reset the computer multiple times, clean erased audirvana and reinstalled twice now with different versions, and tried every combination of settings both in Audirvana and in the global Midi prefs I can, without success - there's always little blipping noise when the track starts, and more often than not, CPU overload, and it's crashed the song twice, and even crashed the entire computer - black screen of death - once. God, that made me want to go back to TOSLINK and stay forever away from USB right there. I'm unplugged the DacPort multiple times, used the opposite USB port. The only things that seemed to help - not cure the problem, but at least help - were turning off integer mode and turning off upsampling completely. But I don't see why this is necessary, and until a new version comes out, I'm going back to Fidelia. Maybe it has to do with using the AppleCore to upsample rather than the Zisotope? I have no idea - out of my depth... but it's too bad, because I really liked the sound of audirvana with my TOSLINK Audio-Gd dac/amp.

MacBookPro 2.4ghz, osx 10.6, 6gb ram, new version of 0.8c test build (but tried all test builds) - with CEntrance usb DacPort - clicking sound like a metronome when tracks begin to play, not before. Don't have this problem with any of my other players, Amarra 2.1, Pure Music, Fidelia, etc. Don't have it with any of my other DACs either - PURE idock 24/196 or Audio-gd Sparrow 8741. Any ideas?

will there be any support for VST plug-ins in the future? If you could do that without compromising SQ, it would be fantastic for many of us.

Very impressed. People were mentioning this on head-fi, and dismissed it because I already have Amarra full 2.1 and Pure Music, as well as AyreWare, Decibel, Pure, Play, and several others. But couldn't help myself - d/l and was incredibly impressed. After several A/Bs, I'm almost convinced it's my new favorite player. The lack of EQ in Amarra is more than compensated by its lack of lag time and tighter bass. The playlist is still a PIA - takes a bit to load and then doesn't sort by column, so that's annoying. I still would like iTunes integration, like Amarra or Pure, but I'll be keeping my eyes (and ears) on this...
