  1. For what sample rates can filters be made in the beta? Still only up to 192 kHz?
  2. I haven't found any Mac tagging app that is anything close to the Windows-based MP3Tag. MP3Tag does offer a version that works on MacOS created using Winebottler. I also really like the Linux-based tagging app Puddletag that is very similar to MP3Tag and with some work could be installed to run on MacOS, but unfortunately, it ceased working a couple MacOS versions ago.

    HQ Player

I'm having CPU running at 99% on my iMac on DSD64 --> DSD256 with convolution enabled, dropping to under 20% when I turn convolution off.
  4. I sent an e-mail to Amarra support asking, but to date no response.
  5. I have found the same. Without checking "real time", the Dirac plug-in doesn't start until a couple seconds into the first song on an album, but with "real time" checked, it starts right away.

    HQ Player

I'm on a Mac OS, so it's Roon.app rather than roon.exe, but that's what was taking the additional CPU resources.

    HQ Player

Thanks, I take a look at it.

    HQ Player

Interesting. For me, if I turn off Roon and drag and drop from Finder to HQPlayer, the CPU temperature seldom gets above 50 degrees C when upsampling to DSD256. When I looked at the Activity Monitor, the combination of HQPlayer and Roon was using about 30% more CPU resources than HQPlayer alone.

    HQ Player

It was full Roon for my trial. In searching different official and unofficial Apple sites regarding normal temperature ranges for an iMac, I found a number of comments that running an iMac at temperatures over 60 degrees C would shorten the computer life. I just recently got the iMac after my 8 year old Mac Pro died, and I'd rather be safe than sorry with it.

    HQ Player

I ended up not purchasing Roon because it added about 10 degrees C to the CPU temperature on my iMac, pushing it to 60+ degrees at times when upsampling to DSD256 on HQPlayer. Too bad because Roon certainly made for a slick front-end interface for HQPlayer.

    HQ Player

Thanks for the suggestion. I'm a few days into the free trial and am quite impressed. I think I have a little over a week now before I have to decide whether to spend the money for it.

    Audirvana Plus 2.6

Thanks! This worked well for me. Will we have to re-do this every time there is an update to Sierra?

    HQ Player

Love the sound of HQPlayer on my Mac, but not the library management. Right now I'm dragging and dropping from JRiver Media Player 21 and that seems to give me most of what I want-- most essentially to organize both Flac and DSD by album artist, with albums in order by year. Any other suggestions for a good Mac music library management tool to try?
  14. Your post got me to go back and try Amarra. I have had a license for quite awhile, but have been going back and forth between Audirvana+ and HQPlayer for some time, always fiddling with settings trying to get them to where I'm really happy with the sound and never quite getting there (user error, no doubt!). I agree with all your observations regarding Amarra and think it will be my go-to player for now. I use it in playlist mode, dragging and dropping from an old copy of JRiver for Mac that I think is great for library management, but which I don't use otherwise.
