  1. Living in Singapore, there is no access to well reviewed streaming sites like MOG in the US, or Qobuz in France. The only service available here is the recently launched Rara. Has anyone given it a try ? I think they recently launched in the US and Europe. www.rara.com
  2. I agree, to my ears very nice recording
  3. Downloaded the software, and when I launch it, I am asked to jet MIDI settings and then get a message that it unxepectedly quit
  4. I found this link whilst surfing on the Weiss website. I am not sure what it actually is, seems to be a free customized version of Amarra software for Weiss Dac: http://www.sonicstudio.com/amarra/amarra_dac.html Has anyone had experience with this customized version, how does it defer from the Standard Amarra mini ? I am currently using Pure Music, happy with it, but thought I might give Amarra Hifi a try when I have some time: are there any potential issues with having both, is switching from one ot the other straight forward ?
  5. ... I have now let them play for a couple of weeks each time I listen through the amp/ speakers, and the sound has definitely evolved. They are still slightly bright but much better than out of the box. I actually like them when listening to rock and folk music; I am slightly less convinced with classical piano, which is ok as I don't get complains when listening to sonatas through my main system late at night - Need to investigate with opera/ lieder and orchestral work... Keith - Thanks for the mod link, looks interesting ! Has anyone on the forum tried those ?
  6. I use a Weiss DAC202 (fed from mac mini through firewire). Speakers are Spendor S8e and Amp a Sugden masterclass integrated.
  7. Sorry typo, no I plugged them into the headphone output
  8. I just got the above, which I plugged into the phono out of my DAC. I have only listened for a few hours, and find that the sound is quite bright compared to what I am used to with my speakers. I did not experience that when I demoed them at the dealer (but it wasn't with the same source). So my question is: do headphones sound evolve over time, i.e. do they need burn in ? Thanks in advance, I am really new to cans (have only used small basic stuff so far with an ipod shuffle when I go running)
  9. Thanks both for the sound advice, fully agree that my ears are the best judge (for me at least!). I was just hoping to get some pointers about people who own this dac, so that I can start developing a short list. Have to admit I do not know anything about headphones, and was wondering if there was any specific considerations when choosing a pair for the 202. Trying to start to build a shortlist of the ones I should try... Cheers
  10. Recently got a DAC202, and am thinking of leveraging it's headphone output when I want to give a break to the rest of the family I am completely new to headphones (only using headphones with my ipod shuffle when I go running ), so hoping that I could get some pointers as to what I should be looking for that would complement the Weiss well. To give an indication of the type of sound I like, I feed my dac into a Sugden integrated amp to Spendor speakers, and listen to a variety of music from classical and opera to rock, folk, and some electro. Thanks in advance !
  11. So is Integer mode not available via Toslink whatever the DAC, or is it specific to the Alpha ? Excuse my ignorance, just wanted a confirmation
  12. I have been thinking about the same - I also have a DLIII, not cullen mods, that is fed by a 2010 Mac mini through toslink glass cable. The DLIII then feeds a Sugden Masterclass Integrated with Spendor S8e floor standers. I am considering upgrading the DAC to an Ayre Qb-9 as well, or the alternative I was thinking about is to get a Halide bridge. Any thoughts ?
