1. Hi there, I've been through this fairly recently- last couple of years, where my interest in the music became less so, in that I didn't go looking for new music as much, but listened to what I had more often than not. I also lost complete interest in looking at equipment. I had bought a Naim system, as I liked the sound and the general ethos. I have no idea what is a correct sound, transparent, less coloured etc. I recognise detail etc and the main sound components of music, bass etc, but have no care to compare systems. My friend is quite competitive and likes to compare my system to his- I find I invite him round less as I cannot be bothered with this. My conclusion has been that I enjoy my system as it is, whether it sounds ultimately as good as it could, I don't care. I'm happy with the amount of music I have, and if I hear something I like then I'll buy it, but I don't have to invest copious amounts of time doing so. there are other things I like to do, and to be honest I feel that the best way of achieving this state is to accept that it is natural and just enjoy what you have. Ultimately the music is the most important- not what it is played on. Enjoy it. Ryan
2. Very recently I have found that I am unable to batch convert any files downloaded (from various sources- all legit), using either XLD or MAX. It seems to be an issue with my mac. I am running Lion with all latest updates installed, but so far I am not sure when this issue commenced, all I know its been very recent. When I try to load the file into the conversion programmes, I get is the warning "This files is downloaded from the internet, do you wish to proceed?" and this will appear for each file, which is very annoying. Anyone else come up against a similar problem? and if so how have you dealt with it? Thanks Ryan
3. To my mind her second best record, after Dry. Nice to see some love for her on here. She is one of my favourite artists. Ryan
4. Hi, I need a new 3.5mm to optical cable to go between my Naim nDac and macbook pro. Was previously using a Van den Hul, but this has since ceased to work. I could repair it but thought I would try a new cable. Thanks in advance Ryan
5. I too have the original and the 180gram reissue on vinyl. Both sound amazing, with great depth for such a recording. Guess I'll be sticking with that. Ryan
6. Hi Chris, I am writing hoping not to sound preachy or disrespectful, but I'd also be wary of promoting any hd tracks downloads at mo. There still appears to be a lot of problems/dissatisfied customers with hd tracks, and although I am a big fan of Nevermind, I too would be wary of purchasing it. I do realise that you are trying to be/have to be positive and that this positivity is to help persuade others to buy and produce more genuine hi res downloads to the benefit of us all, but please be careful. I would not want such an important site to us all to suffer as a result. Again, if this comes across as sanctimonious then please forgive me. Ryan
7. "Used to be an audiophile until I discovered that I really liked music more than the equipment." Nice comment.......something that's probably been forgotten by many an audiophile. BTW, I'm an Occupational Therapist and Head of Therapy for a private hospital. Ryan
8. You are correct, but if you read the OP then it is quite clear that the poster is wanting to neither download free music or pay for copyrighted products. I will stand by my comment. Ryan
9. I somehow think you may have the wrong audience on here, and quite frankly the tone of your opening message is quite aggressive, so I doubt you're going to get any useful responses. Other than that, I suggest you grow a pair and go shoplift some cds at HMV......amounts to the same. Ryan

Thanks Chris.

MAX

I'm having problems with the latest version of MAX. Every time I try to change the format settings it crashes and won't let me into that screen. Anyone else had the same problems and got any advice or fixes?? Thanks Ryan
12. In relation to your reply Chris, but off topic, so sorry. I am aware that there are no viruses for macs at mo, but what if you were running windows via parallels or vmware fusion. Can you still get a virus, would it just be on the virtual machine?, or would the actual mac be affected? Something that has been on my mind for a while, as I have another mac that we have vmware on. Ryan
13. Very true Hook, but my main point was to offer the download as a standalone copy. I do downsample flac to mp3 but I just feel that if you are going to go to the trouble of offering a hi res download then get it out there for everyone to download as they please (ie paying for it).

All the best
Ryan
14. While I think its great that this download is available at all, and especially in a genre that usually only gets mp3 quality, I'm not sure I get the reasoning. I agree with others that it would be better to sell the download as a standalone format.

If I get a download code for mp3 with a record then I assume that the download is for listening on my ipod etc while the record is for proper listening at home. This in my view is great as I can enjoy the record anywhere. To have to buy a BD dvd, or vinyl record then get a hi res download is a bit superflous I feel. I do not see the point in selling the record, and giving a download at the same quality. As far as buying the vinyl, my analogue front end is better than my digital one, so I would still be listening to the vinyl (I know this is not the case for everyone).

Just seems weird to me, but at least they are beginning to offer hi res files, so shouldn't make too much of an issue out of it.

Ryan
15. I've just had a look at this on the website, and its more a streamer than a dac. They don't even give the specs of the dac as far as i could see, although it was a quick look. THere are posts and pics from another forum and its basically an Airport Express in a nice big box, but sells for $1600. Hmmmmmmm Ryan
