  1. I also need to know whats up. Ideally I wanted 24/96 in my ipod and wanted my car deck to bypass the ipod DAC. Of course the ipod wouldn't even transfer my 96khz. So using dbpoweramp and made 24/44 audio files and they did transfer to my ipod. But the files wouldn't play and generally froze my ipod. Either with headphones or even through my stereo. Am I going to have to make them 16/44? I really wanted 24 bit It's a newer ipod, 120gb.
  2. My deck only reads mp3, wma and wav. But I assumed anything on the iPod didn't apply, being as how it played the odd iTunes store purchase (mp4). Is there a way to get flac onto the iPod? I just found via google something called Rockbox, hopefully it works on my new model iPod. Unfortunately you'll probably end up being right about it not recognizing the flac files. Guess I'll give it a whirl. Thanks!
  3. This might be an obvious answer, but it is somewhat of a 2 part question. First off my car stereo has Ti/Burr-Brown 24-Bit DAC. When I connect my iPod to my deck via USB connection (made for iPod), is it bypassing the iPods internal DAC? If yes, perfect!! Which brings me to part 2, which is less of a DAC question. I thought I read somewhere about getting FLAC files onto the iPod. If that's possible, could I theoretically get songs onto my iPod at 24bit 96kHz???? Or apple lossless, I just need to know if there is any way possible to get 24/96 ONTO the iPod, and let my car's DAC produce the true sound. If not, I guess I'll have to settle for WAV files. Thanks!
  4. What a beauty!! I'm a little worried though.. Largest SD card I could find was 64gb, I guess it would be compatible. Battery life is a little worrisome, but as expected. I just might have to purchase this. Waiting for Apple to make an adequate iPod might be pointless. Still any kind of iPod mod (external would be more than fine) that can give me 24/96 would be perfect scenario.
  5. To beat the loudness war, I've downloaded vinyl rip torrents and they're all FLAC 24/96. I figure, why not keep it lossless? To get the files into iTunes (I have a 120gb iPod) I converted (dBpoweramp) the files to apple lossless 24/96. Much to my displeasure I realized that even though iTunes accepted the files, my iPod would not. As far as I know the iPod caps it at 24/44, and downsamples to 16/44. (Wouldn't mind confirmation on the downsample to 16 bit) Now this wouldn't be a huge deal if I was using something like stock headphones all the time. Unfortunately I connect my iPod directly to both my home stereo and car stereo, both pretty decent/expensive setups. Now I made this thread because I stumbled upon a site http://redwineaudio.com/imod that modded the sound of an iPod. Because I am not using this for portable listening, a clunky mod of ANY kind would do, even if it was external. If the answer is still no on that (that no mod for iPod can sample at 24/96), is there any digital audio player in the known universe that plays 24/96? If not, does anybody hold out hope that anything like that would be coming? Even to the iPod? Thanks!
  6. My dad has a HUGE vinyl collection and can't find a lot of it available for digital downloading. I suggested to him that we buy a turn table and record his LP's onto the computer. I also wanted to buy some of my favorite vinyl that wasn't effected by the loudness war and record it onto my PC. First off, I am nothing close to an audiophile. I have a very basic understanding. I just want to be able to reproduce some vinyl onto my PC in top quality. I don't really know where to start, this is where you guys come in. Please tell me what I am going to need. I have Windows Vista if that helps.
