  1. try to embed different pictures into the same song file, the same song will always sound different.
  2. An underestimated feature provides Audirvana with the ability to display booklets in pdf format, located in the same folder as the selected track. The big advantage for me is not only to use the booklet delivered with an highres download, but also to create booklets with all information I want to see. Although it costs some time, it's a very convenient way to read and view all information that are relevant to me when playing a song. In this regard, I have an improvement request: The icon for the booklet should also be displayed in the Play Queue view. And to make this feature perfect, I would like to see the booklet and the audirvana playlist in two separate windows. Then I would not have to close the booklet view, in order to look again to the playlist view.
  3. Hello, a simple question : does Amarra Symphony still have the 3 GB RAM limitation? Greetings Gerd
  4. As far as I can see, there is no possibility to set the maximum bit depth of an adapter / USB Converter Device in this Beta Version. Will the final version be capable to do this? I would appreciate it, and as I told you, I need this feature for my Audio GD USB/SPDIF Converter (just to be able to set the maximum bit depth to 24 Bit, and not to 32 Bit). Thank you for your great work!
  5. Good News from Damien : audirvana will offer an option to Choose the Maximum Bit depth of the Output device with the next Release!
  6. Hello, I have attached screen shots of two different USB / SPDIF converters and what they tell the Mac OS X System (Audio Midi Setup) : As you can see, the Musical Fidelity supports a bit depth of only 24 Bit, this is not changeable. The audio-gd DI-V3 shows that it supports 16, 24 or 32 bit-depth, but really it supports only 24 Bit. Audirvana (when integer mode or direct mode or exclusive mode is selected) sets the output to the maximum bit depth of the selected device, that is 32 Bits for the audio-gd DI-V3. Here you can see a screenshot when playing a 24 Bit / 192 kHz aiff file with audirvana and audio-gd DI-V3 : There are two possible solutions, as far as I can think : 1. the audio-gd DI-V3 needs a modification so that it tells the Mac OS X system the correct maximum bit depth which it can support (i.e. 24 Bit) 2. audirvana offers an option to choose the maximum bit depth of the selected audio output device (as it still offers the option to choose the maximum sample rate of the DAC)
  7. Hi, I have exactly the same problem, but I'm not sure if the audio-gd USB-SPDIF converter really supports 32 Bit. But truly, the converter tells the system that it supports 32 bit depth. The only solution I have found : Manually set the bit depth of the audio-gd converter to 24 Bit with Midi Audio Setup once, and use only iTunes or Amarra to play the music. Amarra only changes the sample rate, it never changes the bit depth, and it sounds great. I contacted Kingwa from audio-gd, he answered somehow confusing to me : "The DI-V3 SPDIF output only support up to 24bit 192K, the I2S output can support up to 32 bit, 192K, if replace the firmware #4 , it can support up to 32bit 384K with I2S output." I have asked Damien from audirvana, if audirvana can offer an option to choose the maximum bit-depth of the output device. As far as I understand, audirvana always changes the bit-depth to maximum, and eventually the DI-V3 tells the wrong bit-depth of 32 Bit to the system. Hope we get some help Gerd
  8. I can't believe nobody has mentioned Charles Mingus so far, so I have to do this. Maybe most of his recordings don't stand for audiophile listening, but there are a few exciting CDs with outstanding sound quality - and, of course, the music is always of the highest quality. For a first example, look for this one :
  9. that's curious, I used DVDFab to make a copy. The resulting image was 23,1 GB, and DVD Audio Extractor created aiff's which are 24 Bit / 48 kHz. Makemkv didn't work at all for me (Backup cancelled after error).
  10. This is one of many known issues, but with a workaround : just use the volume control of iTunes, it will control the volume of Amarra!
  11. Volume Control doesn't work anymore, it jumps to maximal volume o,o or -144 when I try to change volume, or even it I don't do anything! After a few attempts it works sometimes, but after every restart (Amarra+iTunes) this happens again. It seems that I can control volume reliably only with iTunes. This surely didn't happen with 2.3.1 Maybe I have to install Lion to get volume control again? ;-) Gapless doesn't work with ALAC (converted with iTunes). In Playlist mode / Cache I get a short intermission between the tracks, or stuttering, or clicks. With AIFF it seems to work. Yes, I deleted preferences. Yes, I restarted my MacBook (Snow Leopard 10.6.8, iTunes 10.4.1) Please stop these untested versions!
  12. YES! Amarra 2.3 is the best sounding music player available for Mac. I don’t want to twaddle about the advancement to previous versions in detail, but the new version is clearly the best I’ve ever heard on my Mac. Amarra 2.3 sounds particularly better in comparison to BitPerfect, Audirvana and Fidelia (I didn’t compare PureMusic and Decibel). BUT...there are a lot of bugs and issues in this new version, SonicStudio should not have released such a bad tested version, it’s annoying… With unchecked Cache and Playlist, I got least errors. But without Cache and Playlist-Mode, you don’t get the ultimate quality, and you can’t play gapless albums. Not every issue is reproducable, but with Cache and Playlist checked, I got a lot of errors and surprises. This is an (incomplete) list : - clicking next track on my iphone Remote app, the last track starts playing again - the next track in my iTunes Playlist (Mode : Playlist follows iTunes) is not played, but a random (??) one out of another Playlist - there’s a short click at the beginning of a track (gapless Playlist) - at the end of a track, the last few milliseconds are repeated as long as the next is loaded to cache (Playlist follows iTunes, Cache checked) - loading into cache lasts VERY long (previous version loaded much faster) - gapless is only supported if you import the tunes of a gapless album from iTunes (and not from Finder) - volume changes when switching from Amarra to iTunes - Preferences change after restart (Playlist follows iTunes) - it's impossible to start iTunes alone, even if “Launch/Quit iTunes” is unchecked And of course I avoid every click during playback, otherwise Amarra could stop playing… Usually, I want to control the music on my Mac headless, with the Remote app on my iphone. I want to do this with the best possible quality and gapless playback without any tricks. When I manage my iTunes playlists on the monitor, I don’t want any GUI, just the iTunes window and nothing more. BitPerfect does this in a perfect way. So, please, SonicStudios, get your work done, a lot of music lovers payed a lot of money for your product. At least, the quality of your products determine your reputation!
  13. Let me try to summarize : Sound Quality is getting worse since Updates after OSX 10.6.4 / iTunes 10.1.1 - the problem (less SQ) concerns only USB-DACS and USB/SPDIF-adapters (not optical out) - evident only with Audirvana and Decibel - usbmuxd causes the problems when Audirvana changes sample rate - SQ is even worse without changing sample rate Workaround for people who don’t need any isync (no ipod, iphone, ipod touch…) : - delete usbmuxd & AppleMobileDevices stuff (q : why? Are there any more effects beside usbmuxd?) to prevent usbmuxd from getting started - downgrade to OSX 10.6.4. / iTunes 10.1.1 Solutions for those who need USB-sync : - perhaps with a future OSX-Update? - Audirvana-Update? - rename /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.usbmuxd.plist? Thank you for helping! Kind regards Gerd
  14. @elcorso : Hello & thank you for information and help. I'm using a Musical Fidelity V-Link; can you tell me what's the difference, concerning sound quality : - renaming /System/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.apple.usbmuxd.plist to prevent usbmuxd from starting & reboot - deleting both usbmuxd files & reboot - reinstall OSX 10.6.6 and iTunes 10.2 (after deinstalling iTunes 10.2.1) ??
