  1. I also just auditioned the MSB Diamond DAC 4. I currently have an MSB Platinum 3. It is fed via a PC with a Lynx card, via an Ethernet connection. In my system, the Diamond was sublime. Too bad, that as configured, it was $30,000. David
  2. Just heard the MSB DAC 4 Diamond in my system, run with JRiver. OMFG!! At almost $30,000, it ought to be great. I really want to hear some other combos, in particular the Orpheus I speculated about. The problem is that nobody has these setups for demo. David
  3. I'm very interested in your setup. Is it possible to run analog inputs into the orpheus? I can't really tell from the reviews. Of course, there is no local dealer. How was the setup. Thanks, David
  4. I have electrical isolation into a dedicated equitech board. I have extensive acoustical room treatments, as was suggested by an engineer who also calibrated 3 subwoofers into my room, with EQ and a Bryston crossover. The sound is actually very good. The connection to the MSB dac is ethernet via an MSB proprietary connection. The problem is that to upgrade and keep the existing configuration with MSB would be a LOT of money. Seems to me that DAC technology should be getting cheaper. not more expensive. David
  5. Just found this very interesting thread. Just started a new one, with the same questions, since I have the same requirements as the original poster. I need a DAC/preamp with analog inputs to accommodate a combined HT and 2- channel system. I have been using an MSB Platinum 3 with volume control. The upgrade to a Platinum 4 is very expensive. Has any body looked at a Prism/Orpheus/Mac/Amarra combo? David
  6. Hi All, New to this forum, but not computer -based audio. I currently have an MSB Platinum DAC 3, with volume control and analog inputs. It's working as a preamp/DAC, since it is integrated to my home theater system. My computer is a home-built PC with a solid state hard drive and an external NAS. Sounds great, but of course, I've been reading. I used to have a Wavelength Crimson, that sounded only average in my system. That was run with a Mac Mini. I had an early Berkeley Alpha DAC that was much better, but the MSB sounds great. It would cost a LOT to upgrade to a DAC 4, and I purely hate the media Center interface. J River is better, but I miss I-Tunes. This is a long -winded way of asking whether there are any preamp DACs out there that anybody may recommend. I've also been reading about the Prism Orpheus/ Mac/Amarra combo. Any comments on that. Thanks, David Shapiro
