iTunes 8.2

I upgraded to iTunes 8.2 a few days ago. Ever since the upgrade, iTunes has a tendency to freeze for about 5 seconds every 3 or 4 minutes. This ruins music playback, as there is no sound during this period. When this happens, iTunes is unresponsive to any mouse clicks or keyboard input. Eventually things recover, the music cuts in and out a few times as if experiencing clocking errors, then playback resumes normally. I'm not sure exactly how to proceed in debugging/fixing the problem and would welcome suggestions if anyone else has experienced this problem with iTunes 8.2. Added July 31, 2009: I continue to have lockup (bouncing ball) problems during playback with iTunes 8.2.1. However, I have narrowed the problem to MP3 files recorded in Joint Stereo. It turns out this is how most of the music that I've downloaded from Amazon.com is encoded.
2. Thank you for taking the time to fully document the problem (including screen capture) Chris. I just wanted to verify that it wasn't something weird on my end. Enjoy your new high speed link!
3. Has anyone else had problems downloading the Grindhouse and Little Axe albums from the B&W Music Club archives? The other albums download fine for me. But downloading these two files in Safari on Mac OS X Leopard gives me the dreaded "Error 1" when unzipping. When I open a terminal window and use unzip it says that the files are corrupted.
4. Has anyone else had problems logging into the B&W Music Club this weekend? I've tried under Windows and OS X, with Internet Explorer, Firefox & Safari. I enter the correct username & password, and login portion of the screen displays that the requested page cannot be found. I can't seem to find any link for technical support either. It appears I may have wasted a membership, as I only downloaded December's album when it first came out.
5. FYI, I notice that Linn Records now has at least four albums available for download in 24 bit 192 kHz. They sound wonderful.
6. Hello Chris,
Thanks for the wonderful list of music download sites. As someone who has already made several purchases on the 2L website I can assure you that 2L does give you a username/password via email within about 12 hours for use in downloading purchased music. Certainly not ideal, but still faster than ordering a physical CD and waiting for the mail. Also, since I'm in the USA, the VAT is waved, making the downloads quite affordable. I agree that Linn Records is by far the most polished site. I'd also like to complain publicly about the performance of the HDtracks Download Manager. Perhaps a little negative feedback in a public forum will prompt them to revamp their site and allow us to use better download managers such as Free Download Manager (Windows), iGetter (Mac), etc. HDtracks offers a great selection and excellent value, so I'd love to give them more business.

Best regards,
David Odren
7. Thanks for the tip, watchnerd! When I tried this in iTunes 7.x when the problem first appeared, the conversion resulted in 16bit/44.1kHz ALAC. However, I just tried it now with iTunes 8, and it seemed to work just as you say, with the added benefit of also saving disk space.
8. As a workaround for the 24-bit AIFF album artwork problem in iTunes, I purchased a copy of Media Rage ( http://www.chaoticsoftware.com/ ). Once I've converted FLAC or WAV to AIFF in Max, I then use Media Rage to add artwork and to modify other fields. Only then do I add the files to my iTunes library.
