  1. And with that, there's really only one 1TB drive readily available and approved by Synology which is the Western Digital Scorpio Blue. And... given my experience, you're going to want to stay away from them. I installed 4 of them into this 411slim unit less than two weeks ago and as of yesterday 2 have failed. That's a very high failure rate, higher than anything I've experienced before. If data security is important, I would stay far away from these drives.
  2. Hi there Vadim. I'm not familiar with the Minerva, but a quick google looks like it's a pretty serious piece of kit. I wouldn't be surprised if it had a really good clock in it, which would of course, not really require an external clock. It's nice to see all of you guys appreciating such high quality gear. As an audio engineer, I spend so much time and effort to achieve the utmost in sonic precision and depth in my productions. With iPods and mp3s being the standard for most listening now, I also wonder if my efforts go to waste, so it's really great to happen upon a community of people who make me realize that it's still worth the effort. Cheers!
  3. Chris, so you actually have a Model Two? I didn't know anyone actually had one of those.. I thought it was a myth. Do you just have a lot of disposable cash or are you somehow making a living off of this stuff?
  4. I was actually responding to the OP's comment, but if you're addressing me, then I think you're going to be hard pressed to hear a difference between high-end clock sources. The differences lie in scope-land for sure. But it's a big jump up from a cheap to mid-level audio interface to a clocked pro interface, wouldn't you agree? Personally, I own a facility in Hollywood with multiple HD systems.
  5. Fair enough. But if you really want to hear a big difference, try syncing good hardware to a solid clock. If you're impressed by the small jump between native PT9 and Amarra, then you'll be floored by the giant leap you'll hear by losing all of the jitter. Oh also... I'm using the Neyrinck iPad controller for PT which works great. You can have your memory locations linked to the touch interface and move to them with a single touch. Plus it's $50 cheaper than the other one.
  6. This blog is so funny I just had to make a comment. Using PT9 for CD playback is like wearing a tux to burning man. Your quality bottleneck is the DACs on your audio interface and your sync clock. If you're using PT with a mediocre interface and using the internal clock, it's not going to really improve your audio quality over iTunes. Though you may think it does because Protools is a professional tool, recently opened up to the masses via the native update.... a placebo effect of sorts. The reason you would get better quality audio output through protools is by accessing high end hardware and syncing your clock to a master crystal like an Apogee Big Ben or similar. If you're just using PT9 through the same cheapo audio interface you're using for iTunes or Amarra, the difference in sound quality would be splitting hairs at best. You want a real boost in quality, yeah use protools, but get one of these: http://www.apogeedigital.com/products/symphony-system.php Oh... and PT uses quicktime to rip CDs, so you're not getting a more accurate data transfer through it. Trust me on this... I've been a professional user of protools for 17 years now HTH!
  7. Thanks for the review. I ordered one of these units and am doing research on it while I wait for it to land on my doorstep. A couple of comments... I think the price has gone up since you wrote this review. The best price I could find was on Amazon @$319. The other resellers on Amazon Marketplace are selling them for $350+ so there seems to be a significant markup on these as Amazon puts the list price at $319.<br /> <br /> I was most interested in the Synology default RAID format and it's redundancy functionality. How's it working for you so far?
