  1. Even though the BPM is drawing no power from the iphone?
  2. Hi Jukka , was wondering why the need for the GWC hub , is it just for the extra length ?
  3. Hi , you need to get a female Molex plug that fits into Pang card Molex socket Like this: Female Molex 4 PIN Power Cable Gender Changer NEW | eBay Got to your local PC repair shop and ask them for the plug off a Dead PC PSU Then cut the wires off Molex plug just leaving the Red wire and one adjacent Black wire ( does'nt matter which one) Then cut one end off the DC -DC plug , and join matching wires , Red to Red, Black to Black If colours on DC plug are different, you will need to open DC plug to find which colour wire is soldered to the centre Pin of DC plug This joins to Red on Molex , other one to Black on Molex if you can't solder , just twist bared wires tightly together , and insulate with some electrical tape or heatshrink Try to keep cable length as short as possible, eg: if you only need a foot of cable, don't make it 3 ft long, it will waste battery power before it gets to the Pang card Fell free to ask if your not sure
  4. Hi Tranz, what extra details are you after?
  5. This one http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=MB3644 I run my Server on a 12v SLA battery into a Pure sine wave inverter powering a Seasonic 480W fanless PSU, and just turn on all batteries before hitting on button - sequence does'nt matter as long as they are on before i Hit the on button Forum post about SLA battery http://www.computeraudiophile.com/f10-music-servers/battery-powered-hot-rod-server-14983/
  6. Hi Jock, l use a 5v battery with 2 outputs, 0.5A powers my SSD and 2.1A for the Paul Pang Card, and powering both, the battery will last around 30 hours between charges- obviously more if you are just using it for the Pang card I would get the battery with the highest Amp rating,2-3A etc
  7. Thanks Bob, I thought there may have been something in your setup that I could use, but after reading the Topanga build list , it appears not - will just stick with my current setup till I have the time to try the 12V batt/Inverter into the Medical linear PSU Michael
  8. The Hot Rod, floating on a 14" cycle tube (Thanks Barry!) Michael
  9. I would recommend trying the PPA card on the 5v battery. I run my Hot Rod server on 12v SLA into a Pure Sine Inverter powering a Seasonic fanless PSU( plan to try a Linear medical PSU one day.....) and changing from that to powering the PPA card off a 5v Power bank realised a small but noticeable gain in the smile department - the particular battery has 2 outputs - I use the 2.1 A for the PPA and 0.5A for my SSD- even running 2 devices ,I get approx 20 hrs compared to a second identical battery running my Calyx DAC, which runs out of steam after 6-8 hrs Bob, can you detail your 12v /Caps setup ? Thanks Michael
  10. Hi Barry , and thanks again, the inner tube setup is a definite step up from the bubble wrap Bought 2 x 14" tubes and got my local hardware store to cut some 15" x 15" half inch ply boards The new sound has a richness to it thats quite addictive ! Bass drum hits in particular sound so lifelike ( I used to hit the skins in days gone by) I did actually try the tube tweak some years ago, but with lower overall system quality, it didn't have an impact like I am experiencing now Thanks again, and I will be recommending this tweak to all who will listen Will post some pics ASAP Michael....
  11. Hello all, A quick post to say thank you to Barry D. for one of his ideas, which I tried yesterday with great success My server , which I call the Hot Rod is a Gigabyte MOBO , mounted horizontally on a piece of 19mm pine board , slightly larger than the MoBo dimensions- I have soft rubber grommets between the underside of Mobo and Pine board I had been using Brass spikes at each corner of Mobo base, and after reading Barry's posts , decided to replace Spikes with tubes of rolled up Bubble wrap Wow ! F**K me , what an improvement ! - much more realistic sense of timing, more micro detail , everything just sounds right-like finally getting a radio station tuned in perfectly Also did the same tweak to my Calyx DAC ( mounted vertically on pine base with same brass spikes) with similar improvement Only 2 slight downsides - doesn't look as cool as spikes ( can live with this as sound , not appearance is priority)and jelly like movement of DAC and server makes changing cables a more careful operation than when components sat solidly. - SQ improvement is again worth the extra time and care now needed for cable swaps etc Thanks again Barry - you idea has bought a huge SQ jump to my system Now back to the listening chair
  12. Will do Ted, but could be a while, Paul fromm PPA recommends 200 hours burn in, but a couple of Jplayers report hearing changes up to the 400 hour mark ! I have my Hot Rod server playing on a loop at the mo', about 35 hours done, 365 to go ! I will have a listen around 150-200 hrs and see how it sounds compared to Sotm
  13. My 2 cents- I have the older version of the Sotm card (with USB2 ports) -I power it with a $20 Ebay 12V battery On a few ocassions when the battery output runs low - the music stops, I recharge the battery and we are good to go again In fact, I thought I had killed the card a week or so ago , when plugging in the modded Molex battery cable, I put my thumb behind the Molex socket on the card ( for a bit of extra leverage) and ripped a SMD capacitor clean off the circuit board Decided to plug it in anyway, and the card works perfectly, even with the missing capacitor !!! For a possible change of flavour, I am now burning in a PPA studio modded USB 3 card ( $170 delivered) Michael
  14. Thanks for the kind words, Vladimir I am planning to contact Chris to ask if I can promote a ISOLAATE BL cable tour on the CA forum Michael...
