Hi everyone, I'm new to using a DAC and have a basic question:
I have a VALAB DAC, which I'm sure many of you have heard of.
I plug into the USB input with a Belkin USB cable from my Toshiba laptop, nothing fancy.
I'm using FLAC files and Media Monkey. I'm getting sound through the DAC, no problems there.
I want to make sure I'm sending a digital signal to the DAC and bypassing the laptop's DAC - what throws me off is that I can still control the volume with the computer - I set all volume settings to 10, but I feel that if I were sending a true digital signal the computer's volume controls wouldn't effect it. Am I wrong?
Are there settings I should or could change in Windows XP to maximize sound quality?
