    HQ Player

Thanks Eric - Since setting SDM Pack to None in preferences causes playback to revert to PCM, DoP seems to be the path that works for my setup to get DSD playback.

@giordy60 & @ericuco, thank you very much for the suggestions. Setting SDM to "None" seemed to cause Mode to show PCM when playing back a .dsf file. Having SDM Pack set to DoP shows Mode as SDM (DSD) and I get audio. I'm guessing this means the DAC doesn't do Direct DSD. That said this config seems to be working - thanks again.

I recently picked up the Monoprice Cavalli DAC to use for my desktop listening. This is connected to my Mac (Catalina/10.15.7) via USB. Since this DAC is supposed to support DSD, I'm interested in trying playback of .dsf files in QHPlayer Desktop without converting to PCM. Unfortunately I haven't been successful so far. Clearly I'm not understanding how to set up the preferences properly so I'm hoping for some guidance as to the proper settings. Thanks!

Thanks for the quick reply, Miska. Unfortunately for me, making the setting changes you suggested did not improve playback. HQPlayer shows a bit over 90% per CPU core when attempting playback of 5.6MHz DSF. With 2.8MHz, it's a little over 50% per CPU.

I have noticed an issue when attempting to play back some 5.6MHz DSF files in HQ Player. Essentially the audio is distorted on playback. 2.8MHz files seem to playback with no problem however. Aside from changing the volume output settings, the preferences are default. My setup here is: Mac Mini 2010 - 2.4 Core 2 Duo / 8GB RAM / OSX 10.10.2 HQ Player 3.8.2Beta3 HDMI out to Onkyo PR-SC5507 Am I missing some setting to allow for proper 5.6MHz playback?
  6. So I've got the free message from Chris +1 No particular expectation as to a vendor or product, just interested in what the Special Discounts mentioned above are / were.
  7. It's been about a week since I subscribed and while I'm enjoying the add free browsing, I have not seen any notifications yet. So while it's possible I'm being too impatient, I wonder if the special discounts benefit is now defunct?
  8. BTTB - Ryuichi Sakamoto Still haven't done anything with that floppy disk though...
  9. Thanks, I think that's the answer. The software is capable but the specific hardware combo is not.
  10. I'm trying out Audirvana and I'm interested in it's DSD capability but so far I can't seem to get it to play the files natively. Here's the setup: MacMini with OSX 10.9.4, Audirvana Plus 1.5.12, Onkyo PR-SC5507, HDMI <> When looking at Audirvana Preferences under Audio Systems, Native DSD Capability is set to Automatic Detection but Audirvana does not recognize the device as DSD capable. If I send DSD out from my OPPO BD-103 via HDMI to the Onkyo, the DSD signal is recognized so I'm wondering why this is not the case for Audirvana. I'm making a mistake with the preference settings or does Audirvana have a limited number of devices that it can work with for DSD playback? Thanks!
  11. Unfortunately, I don't have a Korg DAC to unlock the full version of AudioGate 3.0 (I've only used the "lite" version) so I can't say. Perhaps Bill Allen can chime in?
  12. Agreed, however I've been able to run both 2.3.3 and 3.0 on the same CPU
  13. This is true for the older 2.x version of AudioGate. The 3.x version does not require a Twitter account. The basic version of AudioGate 3.x can be used without a Korg DAC and advanced features are available if used with a Korg DAC.
  14. Thanks for the suggestion Richard. Unfortunately, deleting the existing preference file "com.codetectonics.BitPerfect.plist.lockfile" did not resolve the issue.
  15. I've had unresolved problems with BitPerfect for a while now. When I had shuffle enabled in iTunes, playback would become and after listening to a track or two, I'd end up with two tracks playing at the same time - a cached track at high speed and another at regular speed. After some back and forth with tech support I stopped hearing back from the BitBerfect team. Seeing that 2.0 was recently released, I updated to the newer version and gave it a try. Right off the bat I had playback problems. With BitPerfect 2.0 enabled, when I attempted to play a track back it seemed muffled and playing back at half speed. If I disable BitPerfect and play the same track back in iTunes it plays as expected. The problems I've had with BitPerfect seem to have been CPU specific but since that CPU is my primary home HTC it's been quite a disappointment.
