  1. Hey Thanks Everyone for all the helpful intructions. Sure is easier when you know what you're doing. I've worked with PCs for so long it takes some getting used to...
  2. Thanks. I'm still new to the computer/iTunes and still finding my way around. If it's not too much trouble could you spell out where to find and enable that type of download. Right now iTunes prompts me to burn the disc automatically when I insert a new one and automatically searchs for cover art...
  3. I've been burning my CD library to hard drive (WD 3 terabyte drive with duplicate back-up drive) and using iTunes to catalogue and organize the track names and cover art etc. I'm playing back with a Wavelength Cosecant V3 and using Pure Music to route the songs (all AIFF format) to analog preamp etc. I've noticed that sometimes iTunes breaks some of the discs out into several albums rather than keeping everything under the same Album folder. Does anyone know how to prevent this from happening? Also noticed that sometimes iTunes captures the wrong album art. Does anyone know how to add my own (the correct cover) art to the file. (Using a Mac Mini as my computer) Minor problems but if I'm going to all this trouble it might as well be right....right?
  4. The new system seems to be up and running well. I have Carbon Clone Copier backing up the new music nightly until I have everything loaded. I'm using the Mac Mini to burn the discs and (on advice from Gordon Rankin) using error correction in the proccess. The burn times are fairly slow and I'm worried I may wear out the drive before I finish. Can anyone recommend a great external Disc burner that will speed up the proccess? Thanks...
  5. I have two WD My Book 3 terrabyte drives; one for listening and one for back-up. The second I will store unplugged for safety. I can see this thing evolving to a point where everyone's library will be housed "in the cloud." I've heard that the type of USB cable (in my case from the Mac to the Wavelength Cosecant)can make a big difference as well. Anyone had any thoughts about that?
  6. Hey Guys, I've been working on the system the last few days and have some observations. I got the Mac mini and have been playing it back through the Wavelength Cosecant DAC V3 with upsampling at 96k. I'm running iTunes and I've tried it with and without a demo version of Pure Music (the demo has limited controls function) I have a Marantz SACD player that I've been happy with for years (balanced XLR output.) Both are fed into the Mark Levinson/ B&W 801 with sound anchors combo. The output from Pure Music is a little lower than my SACD outputs so the volume has to be adjusted so that both sources are uniform. I had a friend in town who's a professional audio reviewer (Stereophile, 6 Moons etc) We both have to agree that the Mac/DAC combo was better. It wasn't a night and day difference but the computer system had more clarity and the transients and small details seemed to stand out more. I'm convinced. I burned about 40 discs that I'm very familar with from all genres. Same thing. Now I need to set up my two harddrives so that I don't lose anything...
  7. Thanks everybody for the advice. I have the task of familiarizing myself with Apple (I'm a long time PC person and just purchased the Mini last week) and hard drive back up. I've downloaded the Carbon Copy Cloner from their website. Sorry to be so ignorant on the subject but can anyone walk me through the installation proccess and how to set up a backup schedule? (It doesn't seem to have a guide.) As I said my set-up so far is as follows: Mac Mini with 2GB, WD My Book 3 terabyte Firewire drive (connected with Firewire 800 cable)out to a second My Book 3 terabyte drive (via a Firewire 800 cable.) USB2 out of the Mini into a Wavelength Cosecant V3 DAC to a Levinson preamp and poweramp. Next task: purchasing Pure Music and figuring out how to make that work with iTunes... Thanks again for the advice.
  8. Just downloaded Carbon Copier and will read up on it before I start doing anything. Right now I'm just getting the hang of the Mac. I have the 2 WD Firewire drives run in series with the Mini backing up to My Book 1 and My Book 2 attached via a firewire to firewire cable (800.) Are you saying that I should use time machine and the CCC? I plan on removing the My Book 2 after cloning the music files (AIFF) and then storing in a safe place. I don't have a monitor for the mini. I was planning on using the iPhone remote app or getting a iPad for controlling the music playback...
  9. So you are saying that I can run time machine or the Carbon Cloner. I was told not to run time machine for the iTunes backup as it would backup everything from the Mac Mini. I want to keep the music files on their own separate drive. Is this the correct path? thanks...
  10. I checked out the Carbon Copy Cloner. Looks good. I'm assuming that I can run the second WD hard drive in series from the first WD drive (fire wire 800 to fire wire 800)and run the cloner from the Mac Mini??? Like I said I'm still finding my way. I had planned on unplugging the second WD after making the clone and storing it (unplugged) somewhere else.
  11. I'm also assuming that Carbon Cloner is the same program as Carbon Copy Cloner and can be downloaded to the Mac Mini? Thanks Conrad
  12. Thanks Akapod, I'm assuming that I should burn a group of dics to the first drive and then go firewire to firewire to the second drive then. I thinke the anal approach is best since a big part of this was to free myself of the CDs. I still have about the same amount in vinyl but ironically they have a longer shelf life that the future of compact discs. I plan on downloading the pure music player as well. I spoke with Gordon Rankin ( I have a Cosecant DAC) and he recommended it for playback. For now I just want to safely copy all on my library to the hard drives...
  13. I'm new to computer audio and have recently purchased a Mac Mini with two external WD My Book 3 terabyte firewire drives. I would like to use itunes to rip my CD collection (around 2000 discs)to the WD drives in AIFF format (bit to bit.)I would like to use the second WD drive as a safety backup for the first drive. What's the best way from a time standpoint to copy my collection to both drives. Can I do that simultaneously or do I need to copy to drive 1 and then back up to drive 2. I'm burning through the Mac Mini with "error correction" on and it seems to take a long time. I've been told that an external CD burner may be the way to go. Any thoughts. Thanks for your help... Conrad
