  1. Thanks, that makes perfect sense... I'm looking at a getting a Weiss at some point, so I'll be using firewire to the DAC. I'll see how I go storage, it just made sense to me that the internal hard drive would be the best place to store them rather than another connection to a USB drive. I'll experiment.
  2. Hello, I've read that people are advising that it's best to your music library on a USB drive. Is this really going to improve sound quality over having the files stored locally on the MAC? I'd appreciate you thoughts.
  3. Ok, I might give it ago. I'm a little confused though, do you still need to import your FLACs into ITunes for Pure Music to work? How would this work if ITunes doesn't support FLAC?
  4. Thanks again for your help. I now have a plan of action..... convert all my files from FLAC to AIFF. I'm not too bothered about disk space. I wondered whether there were any draw backs to using Amarra (whether it would do a better job) or perhaps I'm worrying too much!! Yes, I like the sound of a batch conversion I'll definitely look at the 8GB upgrade, I won't be touching the hard drive though..... Are the mini drives 5400rpm?
  5. I think I've found the answer actually. I think I need to get Amarra installed and then use Amarra to convert the FLAC files to AIFF. Is this the best way of doing it? Is there any loss of sound quality during the conversion?
  6. Hello again. The mini and touch arrived yesterday and I had a quick go at setting it up last night. I've only ever used windows, so I've got to admit, I found the apple OS to be a little tricky..... Anyway, I mapped my network drive and copied my flacs over to the mini only to find that ITunes doesn't support FLAC files I've got a 100GB of flac files..... Can somebody please advise what I need to do to get this working? Do I need to convert my files to Apple lossless so I tunes can import them? As I said previously, I'm planning on using Amarra, so a do I even need to import my files into ITunes? I thought that I did to get the apple remote app to work? I'd really appreciate the advice guys.
  7. It's a little late now as I've already ordered, but it's certainly interesting reading though. I'll wait and see how the standard one sounds first.
  8. Cool, that's cleared up my confusion. Cheers.
  9. Brilliant, no more questions I promise.
  10. Ok, cheers. I'll have a crack at it when all the kit turns up. I just assumed that it would sync with ITunes, but I'm going to be using Amarra, hence me asking whether Amarra had released an app. Anyway, I'll just wait until it all arrives and then have a tinker. I just wanted to have an idea on what I had to do.....
  11. Thanks for all the info, it looks like I've got lots of reading to do...... As I said, these are my first apple products, so how would the remote control software work on the Itouch? Is there an Amarra app?
  12. Thanks for your advice. I've bought one now along with an Itouch I'll be looking at some Weiss DACs at some point and planning to use the firewire. I'll look into the 64bit OS things as well. Wow, 8GB of ram, is that really needed? What are the best remote control apps for apple products as I'm an apple virgin.....
  13. First post here, so hello everyone. I'm looking at buying a mac mini as a media server using Amarra. I'll be connecting it to a DAC when I get one. Before I pull the trigger and buy one, are the latest mini's ok as a media server? I know this could be a silly question, but I don't want to buy one, only to find out that I should have bought a certain model etc. Thanks.
