  1. I am starting to put together a music server audio system. I will purchase a Wyred for Sound DAC-2 and connect a Mac Mini via an USB asynchronous connection. This cable will be Transparent Performance USB cable in a 2 meter run The external hard drive will be a Western Digital My Book 2TB connected via Firewire 800. I have yet to pick a brand for Firewire and was going to use a Belkin 6' Firewire 800 cable to connect to the Mac Mini. Any thoughts on preferences for USB and Firewire 800 - 800 cable? Thanks!
  2. Hello all, I am in the middle of determining what direction to go in terms of equipment. My research makes for a welcome narrowing of possibilities for system playback set up. I have this playback system for audio: AUDIO SYSTEM Classe DR-6 preamp with phono; Sony XA-5400ES SACD player; Mark Levinson 29 Amplifier; Spendor SP 1/2 speakers; Richard Gray power filtration and Transparent Cables. COMPUTER SYSTEM Apple Mac Pro Quad Core computer (current) 2.8 Ghz with 6GB RAM; LED Cinema Display (current) and Western Digital 2 TB My Book Studio II (2 of these). One is a backup for my media folder since I do not use Time Machine for Itunes. I rip my CDs in Apple Lossless and have some FLAC files converted to Apple Lossless via Max in my media folder. I currently use Itunes with a Classic 160 GB Ipod. My current preferences (that I may duplicate for both audio systems) would be a Mac Mini server (2 x 500 GB hard drives); Wyred for Sound DAC2 (with 192 Khz USB); either a 7" touchscreen for navigation or use a Mac Iphone for system control. Audio files would be sent over a wireless router after ripping or downloading. Playback would be from the Mac mini hard drives. As far as software goes, I understand that the Channel D Pure Music software is much more musically realistic than Itunes. I am strongly considering this application over Amarra to substitute Itunes for my Audio systems. I welcome any thoughts on the above. Kind regards, Joseph
  3. I am trying to formulate a plan for bringing computer audio to my stereo. I currently have Apple Lossless files that I play locally via Itunes on my computer and a 160 GB Ipod. I save all my files as Apple Lossless. I am thinking of either going with a media server (ie Cambridge NP-30 or Marantz NA7004) or running a Mac mini server with a Peachtree iDac. If I went with a media server I could just attach a WD My Book Studio II as opposed to using a Mac mini server with 2 x 500 GB HD for running Itunes and Cog for native FLAC files. The data would be sent via a USB port to the iDac. With the Mac mini ‘s wi-fi capability, I could send new files from my desktop Mac Pro. I would also use a 7” touch screen display for system navigation on the Mac mini. My computer is not in the same room as my music system. I want 24/96 and 24/192 playback capability for Apple Lossless and FLAC files using a wired configuration for the system. I would welcome any suggestions. System: Classe DR-6 preamplifier; Mark Levinson 29 power amplifier; Sony XA-5400ES SACD player; Spendor SP ½ speakers; Richard Gray 1200 power filter; Mac Pro Quad core computer (2.8 Ghz processor, 6 GB RAM); Mac OS 10.6.6; 2 Western Digital 2TB My Book Studio II. Ipod classic 160.
