  1. Hi all. Fist off this isn't a post about the pros/cons of MQA, save that for another place. I'm selling my PS Audio PerfectWave MK II with Bridge II installed and I'm looking for a replacement for my desktop. System is Massdrop THX amp and DarkVoice 336 amp on the tube side. Headphones are Hifiman HE560's, Audeze I20 and Senn 600's. Headphones will continue to change. Computer is a 2017 Imac running Tidal and Roon. DAC needs: Must do MQA unfolding, balanced ins/outs but does not need to have a volume. I currently own a Mytek Brooklyn in my theater/two channel room and do love it so the Liberty is top of my list right now. What else do you have that I should look at? ThanksMike
  2. So now more confused! I hadn't given a preamp a thought, my Emotiva was such a huge step up from my Denon X4000 that I was using as a pre/pro. I still like the idea of a potential upgraded dac but a nice tube preamp like a Cary SLP 03 intrigues me with the proc bypass and balanced connections...hmmmm
  3. Correct this is for 2 channel music, through my XMC-1. I use Reference or Direct mode if I want a little bass. Just wondering if there is something better. I do use Dirac as well and love it.
  4. I've got the bug, my theater/system is finally reaching a point where most of the "major" items are set. It's time to start squeaking that last little bit (whatever the little bit is) out... Current system: Emotiva XMC-1 pre/pro, Oppo 103, GoldenEar Triton ones (full triton system but I'm just talking about two channel for this post)...now for the upgrade. I'm running a HTPC to a Little Dot MKI dac and it's time to move into the mid to late 2000's and into DSD, Asynchronous etc.... Price range is under $2K and would like to be closer to $1K. Music, not that it matters is a bit of everything, I use Tidal and have a few thousand FLAC tunes. I've owned in the day, EAD 7000 and Adcom GDA 700 dacs. I'm not much of a tweeker anymore, I prefer the set it and forget it. I would like to have balanced outputs, toslink, coax and usb inputs, volume not needed but if it's defeatable that's fine. I have been researching the new Audio Alchemy DDP-1, Simaudio Neo 280D, anything else I should consider? DACMagic? Thanks
  5. I like this but I don't want a monitor..that's why I was thinking mac mini...
  6. I've looked at the Synology units, and others... they make about two dozen. I'm not sure what the difference between a synology 4 bay for $300'ish and a Synology 4 bay for $600. Do they all use the same software?
  7. Okay, total noob hear. I've been a member for a while and I'm in need of some help. System and background: Goal- I need to get music to my bedroom headphone system. I have a Headroom maxed out amp, little dot dac, various headphones. Music- My music is in two places. First place is in my theater, basement level. I have a HTPC (windows based) running my theater with about 20K songs in various formats most low rez mp3, running to a processor/projector theater etc... Music part 2- I have aprox 300 gigs of flac/lossless on a portable HD. This is what I'd like to use up in my bedroom system. What would be the best quality/ease of use without breaking the bank. Mac mini in the bedroom? If so what's the best way to run without a monitor (no space) I have a Ipad mini. I'm searched on CA forums until I'm sick...I'd love to be able to use my Ipad as a remote control unit if possible... Help please
  8. I think there are a couple ways to look at her response. 1.) in the Huge world of audio you can break it up into three categories, Low-fi, Mid-fi and Hi-fi...all three areas can provide excellent sound..."low-fi" or Low end doesn't mean bad sound. Low-fi would be "most" mass market all-in-one av/receivers...Denon, Yamaha, Pioneer etc..."mid-fi" is where you make a step up...into usually separate pieces...Pre/amp processor plus the requisite multi-channel amp or even monoblocks. Adcom, Rotel, B&K, I would say Emotiva would fit into either the "High" end of "low-fi" or entry level Mid-fi..and the final "Hi-fi" would be the Krells, Audio Research, Proceed, cost no object companies. or 2.) That piece is an entry piece for the company Emotiva Maybe that helps
  9. I just wanted to throw my 2 cents in. I'm currently running Rokit 8's for my front mains, Rokit 6's for my surrounds and a single rokit 8 for a center. I'm using a Yamaha av receiver with pre-outs and a home built dual 12" sub. I sit anywhere from 6 to 12 feet from my screen, using a PS3, xbox and a HTPC for sources. I've had many "high" end systems from proceed to B&k Magnepan to B&W nautilus..and everything in between. I wont say this is the "best" system I've had but it sure stacks up very well and has that "oooo" factor when friends come over to watch movies or to game.
