  1. I was looking at building a caps 2.o server and have been advised that the CPU may not handle playing hi-rez while using JPLAY in its optimal settings. A I5 CPU and at 8gb ram. Has anyone had issues with this.
  2. I am considering buiding the server and have no experience buiding servers. I would like to know what type of issues I am likey to encounter and what type of specialized knowledge is required and any estimates in buid time. Any assemby notes detaiing step by step instructions out there?
  3. I ment Mark but typed Jason
  4. I have been looking for ways to build the caps server and cut the cost. It apprears the ITX6 case is the same. A couple of questions. For someone who has never built a pc or server and doesn't have time to do much trouble shooting or would be soley reliant on other to resolve problems would you recomend proceeding with building it myself. I have added cd drives, memory etc..before but am concerned reading the power supply post. Is there step by step instructions someone has put together for newbee's or is it a matter of reading the hardware instructions. To confirm you didn't have any issues with the case, this appears to save $150 or more. If you still have your case I am interested in it Thanks in advance for your help.
  5. Any one in the DFW with a C.A.P.S. 2.0 Server or Auraliti server I could listen to.
  6. I am in the Dallas / FortWorht area and would like to meet others interested in computer audio. I have just recently transitioned to a computer based audio system and excited about the seemingly endless enhancement possibilites. If anyone would be interested in talking further let me know.
  7. I will be using an XP lap top into my berkeley alpa USB / Dac until budget allows for upgrading to the c.a.p.s. 2 server. I have loaded the asio driver and JR river. So far no problem. Is there configuration I can do get better sound quality, e.g. turning off processes. I saw the pdf Chris published for windows 7. Is there an equivalent of this doc for xp? Does turning off unnecceary processes improve the sound quality or intended to ensure there is always sufficient system resources? Any low hanging fruit on improving XP laptop set up until getting a dedicated serer.
  8. Would the Auraliti servers yield a comprable sound quality as the c.a.p.s. 2 server?
  9. I looking for a 2.0 vs C.A.P.S music server but my budget limits me to approximately 1k. Is there a form or link on this site or other sites where used servers are listed?
  10. The Berkely only accepts AES, SPDIF, Toslink. Given this are my options a USB converter or music server.
  11. I am in the market for a music server and need guidance on selecting one. The only one I have auditioned is the blue smoke black box. It sounded great but I really don't have any reference to judge it by. Retailers I have contacted usually only have one model so how does one know which ones actually have better sound and warrent a higher price. I will be using a berkely alpha dac and am interested in the USB converter but under the impression that a dedicated server potentially wil sound better than using say a mac with a usb converter. Are there sonic signatures associated with servers as there are with other audio components. How does one develop a short list of ones to audition and then arrange for them?
  12. Has anyone compared high end servers to one another? What servers are comprable to the Bluesmoke black box in sound quality. Do servers have sonic signatures differences in a similar manner as other audio equipement, e.g. amps, d/a converters etc. How vunarble are servers to becoming obsolete in just a couple of years due to not being upgradable.
