  1. Got one of those HDMI dummies and after a month I say 'Korrekt'! It's working flawlessly.
  2. whoa! Never seen this before. This could actually be it. I did some research and some of the described issues sound like mine. Will give it a try. Thanks!
  3. no worries. A big part of all this is also (but not exclusively) using a streaming service (Apple Music at the moment). This is why I loved the idea of Audirvana with embedded Tidal (and a dedicated remote). But I found it to be very unresponsive at times. Apple Musics remote at the other hand doesn't give you access to the 'browse' function. However, if there's no simple answer (try XY, it's like duet but works...), I will most likely just ethernet both macs (headless and Macbook) to the router and keep using screen sharing. It will be a long cable and somewhat obstructive but I suspect streaming music and at the same time remotely/wirelessly accessing the monitor always leads to hiccups.
  4. Thanks. But as I said, I tried DUET. And while it kinda worked, it shot my OS X menu bar ('finder', 'file'...simply disappeared...) which seems to be a common problem for some. So yeah, something like DUET would be nice.
  5. Thanks! Things actually seem to improve a lot when using ethernet from the macbook (which I use to share the Mini's screen). But is there a way to wire an Ipad to the Mini? Streaming is fine and all my own music is stored on the Mac Mini (2012). Which uses apple airport to my phone provider's own router WiFi box. So all pretty basic (and usually dependable). The trouble actually comes from using any WiFi remote. I have totally given up using Audirvana+ remote on the Ipad (it adds it own sluggishness) and mostly access through Splashtop (from my Ipad) and Apple's own screen sharing (from powerbook).
  6. Hi, this is probably a simple question for most but: How do you access your headless Mac Mini system or similar WITHOUT relying on WiFi? To me, this whole thing has been becoming so frustrating that it keeps me from listening to music: Any wireless, remote screen access is so slow or unreliable; skipping songs or browsing takes too long and more often than not my Ipad (or Macbook, Iphone,..I keep rotating) becomes unresponsive. Our internet should be fast and WiFi usually is good (we watch multiple movies at times, no hiccups). Is there a way to attach an Ipad or similar directly 'by wire'? I tried an app called DUET and it immediately shot IOS functions. Anything else out there? No monitor/keyboard/mouse setup as this is my Audio system...am I ready for a standalone music server?
  7. Russel (or who ever has made the experience), does BitPerfect play ball with the Itunes titles? I currently play though Audirvana (Itunes mode) but it keeps mismatching my titles. I select a specific song and all of a sudden a completely different song pops up within the album (repetitively the same combination...). And: Does BitPerfect in any way 'hug' you DAC (as Audirvana does)? I like Audirvana except the fact that it claims a DAC and if I switch to something (such as Spotify or radio through Itunes), I need to select another DAC. I would love to streamline this by just using my favorite DAC for all applications. cheers kai
  8. And..oops, there is a 64 pages long thread on the *new* Audirvana Direct Mode for Mountain Lion...looks like I haven't checked for a while.
  9. thanks wg and paul! Sort of confirms where my GAS points me to. A while back I read about different folks' impressions in regards to how Audirvana works (or sounds) with OS 10.7. (no integer mode and such); will probably post something similar in the software forum. cheers kai
  10. Hi, got rid of my beloved CDP, and stored my CDs away. An old powerbook OS 10.4 does the music server duty with HiTech2, Itunes and Shigaraki DAC (limited to redbook resolution) rather okay, but a little flat and 'obvious' sounding. Purchased Audirvana and tried my MacBook Pro 10.6 w. Audirvana and...er yes: This is how it probably is supposed to sound and the way I remember my DAC: Full, round, detailed enough, relaxed. I could be happy with this for a long time. Since the MacBook is my work machine (and will be for a while): If going for a new Mac Mini 10.7 or a Macbook Air 10.7 instead, could I, in a nutshell, be expecting this to sound as satisfying as My Macbook? Better even? Similar but different? This has probably been discussed before but said discussions often move into terra incognita for me...
  11. No Ido here, but I have an Icon HDP since roughly a month now. I wasn't too impressed by the DAC after some (possibly overly) critical listening. Dynamic sounding, nice resolution and really good instrument separation. But with rather uninvolving mids, it is overall lacking a little in 'soul' compared to my old 16/48 NOS DAC. It seems like it resolves but doesn't entirely 'put things in perspective'. Acoustic guitars tend to have a little less body and sound just a tad more 'steel stringy' than necessary. To put this in perspective, this is only apparent in direct comparison (with a much more expensive dedicated DAC/CD transport) and probably dependent on taste. Right now, I am listening to it (background internet radio and music server) and find no fault with it. Anyhow, I kept it since I needed a head amp (and as such I like it a lot) and a simple source chooser for the mac based music server, DVDplayer and AppleTV. Technically, it works flawlessly with all sources and Audirvana/Mac via USB.
  12. It always starts with 'just this one song' (usually 'Parry Sound' or 'Almost Summer') but then it's always the whole album. Followed up by 'Yakimo' by Simone White this time. Then dinner was cold. cheers kai
  13. That is all I am interested in. Since the mid 90's my excitement about speed or a brilliant user interface of Macs has always proven to be shortlived: 3 years half-life at most. But that's fine since I am stuck with them through the nature of my work. If used as a 'set and forget' machine, all that matters will be what's coming out of my speakers. Any comparisons out there yet between the former and this one?
  14. 'EDIT: I just performed a quick search, and if your DAC's the 4715, the chip used is the Philips TDA1543T 16-bit dual DAC. So, it sounds like your unit is strictly 16/44.1, but I could be wrong.' Thanks for the search, Amused! Makes sense.
  15. Oh, well. Yeah, I should probably just have looked at the 47Labs/Sakurasystems website. It says 'Input sampling frequency : 32kHz, 44.1kHz, 48kHz(selected automatically)'. So can I assume it's max 16/44 due to the SPDIF receiver limitation (or is there anything like 16/48)? The reason I am asking is probably common: If I am thinking music server and although my library is now entirely ripped from CD, I am getting intrigued by the idea of higher res recordings in future.
