  1. Sechelt BC, you drive by my house every time you go to Vancouver
  2. I use a pc with a PCI firewire adapter with a Texas instrument chip recommended by TC. The TC Near software is a little finicky from what I have read and has been more troublesome with Macs. Settings - 256 samples at 96k (I use up-sampling in C-Play) 128 samples @ 44k also sounds good C-Play music player software which supports ASIO You do not mention what software you are using. If you are using Itunes it does support ASIO which could be the reason for mediocre results.

  5. The Konnekt is limited to 96K on the digital out, 192K is with internal DA only. Interested in hearing if sounds different equates to better. Steve from EA trashed the Konnekt 8 a while back on this forum; it would be interesting to find out what one of his customers thinks.
  6. I use a TC Electronic Konneckt 8 Firewire Unit; around $300.00; will do 24/96, there was some issues with Mac's but I believe they have been fixed. There is also the M-audio Profire 610 at about $400.00 which will do up to 24/192 Both use the dice II chip; the M-Audio a more recent version. It would be very interesting to hear your opinion if you compare either of these units to the BelCanto USB. Shawn
  7. I have one in use on a windows XP machine and perhaps I just maybe lucky but I have had no issues at all. It has worked equally well with 2 computers one with on board fire wire and one with an add on pci card. I had read all the horror stories about TC firewire units but for $300 I took the chance and it worked out. As well since it is sold through Pro music stores that mostly have 30 day money back offers it would not be much of a risk to try out for ones self. Peter as far as end of life; is not the RME fireface 800 that you use or used just as old. Just my two cents worth Cheers. Shawn
  8. Have a look at this web site http://www.thuneau.com/ they mention a version for mac As well there are others available for windows that also include room correction. http://www.juicehifi.com/index.html http://www.acourate.com/ I am also working on a unit that may well become a commercial endeavor that will include a DSP crossover, top of the line Wolfson Dacs, Dexa clock, and digital amplifiers with passive volume control. The unit will have AES (XLR) digital in as well as Is2 digital input and possibly firewire. Regards Shawn
  9. Paranoia not justified I have downloaded almost 100 albums from Mindawn no DRM, you do not need their ripper or player. All my downloads have been flac and then converted with foobar to WAV with cue sheet to use with Cplay music player or to Apple lossless with DBPoweramp for my Apple TV. Down loaded files will play on any player and can be converted to any format. CD quality, awesome music, great customer service (the owner answers emails himself), No worries. It is too bad there are not more services like this offering flac downloads. Regards Shawn

    Cmp and Cplay

Go into foobar Highlight all the tracks of an album then right click select convert to album images with cue sheets or chapters. This opens a dialog box; select encoding preset wavs or Flac click on ok select file destination. Goes real fast I believe wavs are standard with foobar, if you want to convert to flacs with cue sheets you have to download a flac component I believe not sure I only use wavs. I have also not used the batch convert but I know it is possible.
  11. The only firewire unit I am aware of that is FW 800 is made by RME is way out of the budget mentioned Look at TC Electronics Konnekt 8 at about $300 will do 96khz, I own one sounds great but drivers a little finicky especially with Mac; supposedly solved; I would try it first. M-Audio FW 610 about $340 will do 192khz and has more features; later design supposedly has no mac problems

    Cmp and Cplay

Try converting a couple of files in Foobar in both Flac with Cues and wavs with cues and see if it works. If it does you can set foobar to batch convert; go do something else and couple hours later problem solved

    Cmp and Cplay

I know files converted in Foobar work, takes seconds to convert also you can batch convert. I have converted all my Flac downloads to wavs with cue sheet this way tales about 20 to 60 seconds per file. Try converting a few in Foobar and see if this works Also try a few different files if you haven't already, I get this message every so often and just need to reload the file. Since you have had Cplay working your sound card is not the problem probably the type of cue sheet.

    Cmp and Cplay

They are meant to work together, Cmp replaces Windows explorer to minimize windows process running in the background. Cplay is the player; Cplay can work by it self but is better with Cmp. Cmp can also be used with Foobar and Winamp as well as some other players. This is a very basic description; there is a ton of info on Audio Asylum but is rather spread out and a bit of a challenge to pull it all together. Files are loaded through Cmp which you have to direct it to where the files are stored. Start Cmp Click on Cmp icon in lower left hand corner, go to add in upper RH corner and select directory where the files with cues are stored. You should now see a list in Cmp of music files that have cue sheets. Click on a file and Cplay should load automatically from there with the selected file. Be sure to deselect ram load in settings since is meant to be used if using another player other than Cplay. ( will load file twice in Ram if using Cplay) Any cue file created by Exact copy or converted to either flac or Wav with cue sheet in Foobar will read fine. Foobar is easiest way to covert Flac to wav or flac with cue sheet. Just using Cmp and Cplay without any hardware or further windows optimizations should give better sound than most other players. Sure did in my system.
  15. Awesome Chris; this puppy's been on my how to convince the wife I need one list for a while. I very curious to see how much this could improve the sound of the Lynx. Which I assume you would use it with. The Antelope will also sync through RCA spdif and AES inputs which probably not ideal may also yield benefits for sound cards or USB / FW units without word clock inputs.
