  1. Hi, i just put my Ayre Codex Up for auction if anyone here is interested in one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/224012078944 Feel free to let me know if you have any questions.
  2. Great post. Early on, I replaced the power cord to my Codex with a Shunyata--and the sound took a nose dive. Switched back to the stock cord (I had a conversation with Ayre; they said the stock cord was chosen with care and that they did not recommend replacing it). This makes the Codex even more of a value, since no power cord upgrade is necessary. Never thought about the firmware--do I need to update it?
  3. I really appreciate everyone who answered my original question about the technical advantages of software PCM>DSD conversion for ES9018 DACs. A follow up question: converting PCM to DSD 128 with HQPlayer using my mid-2010 Mac Mini (2.4 core 2 Duo) seems to max out the CPU usage on my Mac. The Activity Monitor meters top out and the CPU percentage shows as more than 100%. I'm guessing that this is to be avoided, and I need to convert to DSD 64? If this is indeed the case, am I still reaping the advantages outlined by the posts above? Or in this case would I be better off converting to the highest PCM rate supported by my DAC (384). Thanks again for the help and apologies for the thread diversion (I do know how to use search, honest I do).
  4. I apologize if this has already been asked and answered, but can someone please explain to me the technical benefits of converting PCM source material to DSD using HQPlayer? I'd be especially interested to know how it would benefit a DAC which uses the ESS Sabre ES 9018. Thanks...
  5. Hi, Kelly, I don't want to raise your expectations too high, but I think you'll be pretty blown away when you can operate the Codex headphone amp in balanced mode. I went into it thinking that it would be one of those "worth doing, but small and incremental" audiophile improvements. Thanks to the guidance of Josh at Ciamara (no affiliation) I purchased a balanced Cardas cable (to replace a SE Cardas cable). The difference with my headphones and my ears was dramatic--after hearing it there's no going back to single ended with the Codex.
  6. Thanks for all the info, Jabs. Really glad to hear that Roon will use HQP's dithered volume control as I've been bugging Roon to add a dithered volume control--this will make that mostly a moot point (although I'd still like to see them add it for when I want to run Roon as a standalone).
  7. Hi, Jabs, When using the Roon/HQ setup, can you adjust volume using HQP's dithered volume control?
  8. Thanks to those who have already posted over in the Roon Forums. If you haven't done it yet, it only takes a minute to post a comment like "+1." Again, the thread is here: https://community.roonlabs.com/t/dit...ontrol/5427/11
  9. Hi, Richard, When listening through my speakers, I also use Exclusive Mode in Roon, and when using Amarra I keep the volume control at 0--and use the remote control on my preamp to adjust volume. But when listening through headphones, I need software volume control, since my headphone amp (like the majority of them) does not have a remote control to adjust volume. When listening this way, I use the dithered volume control in Amarra, which sounds great when making modest adjustments. For situations like this, Roon needs to have a dithered volume control--as featured in almost every other software player on the market.
  10. I started a separate thread but thought I should cross-post here: I have been in contact with the folks at Roon, urging them to add a dithered volume control as found in Amarra, Pure Music, HQ Player, Audirvana, etc (the current Roon volume truncates bits). They said they are open to it but need to hear from users in the Feature Requests forum in the Roon support forums. I have posted there in a thread that had already been started by others. Please take a minute to quickly post that you would also like this feature (if you're a Roon user, you can sign up to use the forums with your existing username and password). The thread is here: https://community.roonlabs.com/t/dit...ontrol/5427/11
