  1. Nice Intro to NAS, Chris C. First, I assume the NAS runs an operating system. How does one load the OS? Do you have to buy a new copy of Windows (I use a PC)? Is the OS preinstalled? Second, the NAS can run 24/7 and does not need to be physically connected to a PC to operate? I guess you would need a PC, though, if you wanted to make software changes to the device.
  2. I really do not completely grasp the NAS storage thing. I use an external HD connected to an always-on PC fed into a wireless router which, in turn, sends music files to my Squeezebox. From what I gather, an NAS has an onboard OS and can operate separately from a PC meaning that it can be left on and accessed much like my external hard drive is doing now. I figured this would be the best fourm to post this question as you all are pretty savvy with computers and audio. Reading manufacturere websites is like they assume you know how these things operate.
  3. I had the pleasure of meeting Ray and auditioning several of his products. They are top notch. Ray is very passionate about what he does and his amps are crystal clear and powerful for such small units. The Predator is very versatile and portable. Meier also make excellent products, but I have had no experience with them.
  4. I use the Beresford TC-7510 MK6/3 between my Squeezebox and Woo Audio headphone amp. It made a significant enhancement of the sound over the built-in Squeezebox DAC. Soundstage is wider and deeper and music is overall a bit crisper. I have leant the unit out to an audiophile in Miami and then it travels to one of a forum member here for their comparisons/impressions. I have salivated over a Stello at three times the price of the Beresford, but I am not giving it up until I hear something that is three times better sounding. When the DAC returns back to me from its 'road tour', I will complete a passive mod that bypasses an op amp. This mod was shared with me by the designer, Stanley Beresford. He informed me that not only will the soundstage open up a bit, but the mids will be even richer. How very exciting! Hope you all found my very first post here helpful.
