Sorry if this is an over-asked question, I searched but couldn't find a satisfactory answer. I'm setting up a music server for use with my headphones, I'm going with the asus xonar soundcard due to financial constraints, and from my understanding, it's a good quality soundcard. I will need to set up "ok" speakers for use in my tiny room however, when the wife wants to listen to music.
Do I go from the soundcard to a switch, which splits speakers from the headphones?
Does the soundcard have the ability to do this by itself? Send sound to 2 different outputs?
Should I go from the soundcard to a receiver, which then I can then select a source, speaker / headphones?
I just don't know what to do... to save both money and at the same time preserve sound quality...
Any ideas would be appreciated and please remember, I'm a noob. Thank you.
