Thanks very much for the Winamp/autotag suggestion. It works well! As you mentioned it edits FLAC files. Is there a way of getting it to update AIFF files directly without me having to do the conversion to FLAC? (note: winamp will read the aiff files, it just wont update them with the metadata. I know how to convert aiff to flac and back again, but I would just as soon avoid this step if possible. I also know there is a debate about whether all lossless formats are sonically the same or not.)

A friend gives you a CD with a custom compilation of songs. You rip it to your computer. But since its a "mixtape" no artist/album/song title info is generated. Is there a program that will read the CDR, id all the songs (like shazaam or soundhound does), and populate all the metadata fields? I've seen a few things on the web that seem that like they might help in this process but I tried one and it was very complicated and only kind of worked. This seems conceptually quite easy and useful. Lastly I am talking about reading a CDR with lossless files not MP3s.
