  1. When I tidied up my collection in Audirvana 2+ I found a little discrepancy. in the use of it. I have a CD of the Cleveland Orchestra with conductor Christoph Von Dohnányi (Decca). They perform the Bartók Concerto for Orchestra and the Lutosławski Concerto for Orchestra. As there is a possibility for grouping I first grouped the 5 parts (5 tracks) of the Bartók with the (correct) name Concerto for Orchestra, that went okay. I though to do the same with the 3 parts (3 tracks) of the Lutosławski, but although I could enter the name Concerto for Orchestra no grouping took place. It occurred to me that the idea is that names of groups should be unique, which it is not in real life. Of course there is an easy way out, as I grouped the Bartók with the name Concerto for Orchestra Sz.116 (the catalogue number of Bartók works compiled by Szekely). This is not the only occurrence because I have also a Collins CD of the London Symphony Orchestra conducted by Rafael Frühbeck De Burgos which are playing the Bartók Concerto for Orchestra and the Kodaly .... Concerto for Orchestra.
  2. Exactly, I am afraid for classical music the indexing available on Gracenote and other sources is bewildering, spelling of composers goes all the way. I always edit everything meticulously before setting it in Audirvana + otherwise your collection ends with the composer - Mahler - Mahler,Gustav - Gustav Mahler - Mahler, Gustav/Gustav Mahler - Mahler,Gustav (1860-1911) etc. no joking just try. And this is only the name of the composer .......
  3. Thank you Brandon. Your advice did the trick. The Mahler 7 (Levine - Chicago Symphony) I have now back from two discs (disc 1 - track 1 and 2) and disc 2 (track 1,2 and 3). As I have scanned the original discs in my collection as FLAC files I modified the track numbers and moved (renumbered) 3,4 and 5 to disc 1. Deleting disc 2 made it. Just as you I do not feel the need to retain the disc structure of the original CD box. I know I have a pile of work to be done, but at least it can be done. Thanks again for your help Kees
  4. Thanks for your quick answer. Checking a sample (Mahler Symphony 7) of a two-disc recording, every is okay. Album name exactly the same (via copy and paste), Track 1 and 2 on Disc 1 of 2 and Track 3, 4 and 5 on Disc 2 of 2. And ... no it will not fold together into one. There maybe bigger problems in the world but this is really something that should be easy but does not work and I have no idea why ! Perhaps other similarities are required ?
  5. Being entirely new on Audirvana (2.0.8) - having enjoyed the Audirvana Plus in its latest version, my challenges are mainly in the metadata of the files (standardization). This is generally no problem, but evidently much work. The one big problem I have is with the scattering of the 'multi-disc' sets, which refuse to come together to one set. As a classical enthusiasts it is no way to see a big Mahler symphony over two discs. This was always a very weak spot in iTunes (the scattering over many discs) but it is not very clear to me and the manual gives nothing about it. I meticulously set 'everything' equal and noticed the disc information - Disc # out of 2, but still no result. Is there any experience here what are the exact criteria to get a 2 CD set (or 3 CD etc.) together within Audirvana 2.0 When this issue has already been debated I could not find it in this very lengthy thread, apologies for that.
  6. Just my comment on the new 1.5.6 release of Audirvana Plus. I tried my trusted recording of Adams Harmonielehre [EMI Rattle] a 16 bit recording. It played without a problem whatsoever. I do not use upsampling. Priority was set on extreme. No hiccups occurred, played just straight with iTunes integrated. No playlists. Sound was tremendous, wide sound stage perfectly suited to big (really big) orchestras. High violins were clear but not sharp. Trumpets blew as gold but no piercing of the ears. Big drums and basses were awesome, but not overwhelming the rest of the soundstage. Nice balance in all. I would not know what to upgrade after release 1.5.6. System is MacBook Pro OS X 10.8.4 iTunes 11.04 Audirvana Plus 1.5.6 Wadia 121decoding computer. Great work of Damien.
  7. Reading all the posts on the new 1.5.5 release I was afraid that it would not work with me. But having played now for 90 minutes no problems occurred (no hiccups etc.). Sound as usual is very fine, perhaps even more than earlier versions. Those problems may have to do with the combination of hardware / software used. I played in iTunes integrated mode, but I never use playlists etc. as an almost classical music listener I have not much use for that. Will see how 1.5.5 continues. Setup is MacBook Pro (recent version) OS X 10.8.4 iTunes 11.0.4 Audirvana Plus 1.5.5 Wadia 121decoding computer So problem here at the moment, but with software one never knows what the future will bring.
  8. I too spend some time discovering that the iTunes integration in 1.5.3 has disappeared. I missed probably that their is already a version 1.5.4 ? Will look into it. Although rumors have it that sound quality using the iTunes integration is inferior I prefer using iTunes. Added: yes 1.5.4 fixes the iTunes integration, thanks for the quick action.
  9. I have installed the new Beta version 1.4.9.11 and the bug has gone, no manual ending is necessary of Audirvana when iTunes has finished. Thanks for the quick amendment, you are doing great. Soon the definitive release 1.5 will be ready I think. Hope the coming changes in OS X 10.8 or the new version (10.9) does not generate a lot of rework at the side of Audirvana. All the best
  10. I think there is a small bug in Audirvana Beta (1.4.9.10). When in integrated iTunes mode the last track has finished iTunes ends correctly but Audirvana never ends, hanging on the last few seconds. Manual ending is necessary. Software version are OS X 10.8.3 iTunes 11.0.3 and Audirvana 1.4.9.10.
  11. I first followed the advice of John Walker with surprising results. Deselecting 'Deactivate play position control by iTunes' resulted after restarting Audirvana again that nothing was heard on the speakers, the software showed that all tracks of the albums were cycled through in a few seconds (without sound) and then Audirvana ended iTunes inclusive. When modifying the settings to the original status the same happened (cycling, no sound). I decided to restart the computer (Apple MacBook Pro latest version OS X 10.8.3) completely and try again with the original setting and .... everything worked again and even my missing two seconds were there. No idea what this is but miracles do happen. On the advice Jud I also installed the Audirvana 1.5 Beta which certainly is sound wise in the same class as 1.4 but I will have to compare it. Great sound and ... my two seconds missing at the end track are again there. Thanks for both of you for this advice. Kees
  12. Thanks for your quick advice, I will deselect 'Deactivate play position control by iTunes' as I had selected it. Will keep you informed what happened with my 'missing two seconds'. In the meantime I read about Audirvana 1.5 Beta It also includes: Bug fixes: Fix gapless playback in Cue Sheets and when using dithered volume control Fix last seconds of the last of a playlist being cut off in iTunes integrated mode Airplay fix applied also for 10.8.3 Gapless playback even when using filters (sample rate converter and/or Audio Units) This feels as if this was a bug, which is fixed in release 1.5 Beta ? Kees
  13. I am in the process of ripping my extensive classical CD collection, using the XLD ripping software. About half-way (700 albums) I encountered a mystery in two albums. The problem is that when I playback the last track with Audirvana Plus (latest software version) the music was shut down about two seconds before the end of the track, which is catastrophic as this was a might end chord with full orchestra. This was via the integrated iTunes mode of Audirvana. I tried again without iTunes playing the same track and lo .......... it played till the end inclusive the full last chord. Mysteries are for solving so I set Audirvana back to iTunes mode, but then there came a message that playing this track was not supported or something. After restarting Audirvana I could play in iTunes mode again, but ......... again the last two seconds were snapped away. Sure it is no great thing and it happened only on two discs and of these only the very last track was shortened in iTunes mode by two seconds. Is there anybody who has heard the same thing and what can be done against it. Kees
  14. This did the trick. Thanks for the hint, I will study more on iTunes. Thanks a lot, Kees
  15. Shuffle mode was not enabled but repeat mode is enabled. I will set it to not enabled and will try what happens. Did not even know that those could be enabled or disabled. Thanks for the tip. Kees
