  1. That is a nice review of Halide Bridge. I also read the one in Stereophile, which is also very positive. Now, wouldn't it be better to use a Tosslink cable instead of a USB? The Mini as well as the Dac Magic can be optically connected. If so, are there better Tosslink cables than others?
  2. Jitterbusters, interesting. I'll have to explore these devices. Yes, I understand that connecting my computer directly to the DAC, and using Pure Music, will improve the sound. But having a noise and bulky computer, as the G5, in my listening room does not excite me very much. Maybe I'll have to consider buying a Mac Mini that is discreet and not noisy. I believe that streaming is one of the clear paths for the future of computer audio: no cables, no more electronics, no CDs all over the place, all your music library accessible from your iPhone or any other small gadget, and the best possible sound delivered from your stereo. Sounds like paradise to me. Thanks for your replies, and the search for the perfect sound goes on. L.
  3. Thank you so much for your answer: quite helpful and clarifying. And it makes perfectly sense that the streamer is an important piece of the streaming chain. I'll look into Rotel's and Linn's products. I really like to have my computer in a room other than where my stereo system is. So I'll keep exploring options to improve streaming audio. Again, thanks realhifi. Leo
  4. Hello there: I'm trying to have the best possible sound with a computer and wi-fi setting. So I've discovered some software that seems to give a better sound quality to music stored in a computer. I read great reviews of Pure Music (Channel D), but I wonder if it has a noticeable effect in an Airport Express setting. I have been trying the demo version of PM and I haven’t bee able to notice any major differences. This is my setting: Power Mac G5, external drive for library music (all AIFF files), iTunes, Airfoil (as a wi-fi software, cause PM does not work directly with AE --only iTunes does), DacMagic (Cambridge Audio), VincentAudio electronics and Vandersteen 3A speakers. According to John Atkinson “AirPort Express is transparent to the music data”. Does this mean that the most important part of the chain in my setting would be the DAC, the DacMagic? If so, then PM would be useless. Right? Or maybe no. Any comments would be highly appreciated. Thanks. Leo
