  1. One other setup I had about 7 or 8 years ago were the Blueroom speakers. They were by far the coolest looking wall-mounted speakers I have ever owned. It looks like they have been taken over by Scandyna - http://www.scandyna-speakers.com/ Yet another option......
  2. Brad, Let me save you a phone call. DO NOT put the Mini Maggies anywhere near the wall! They are like the "regular" Maggies and need some room to breathe. In fact, if you desk is right up against the wall, that will likely be an issue.
  3. I ended up going with the Mini Maggies as the speakers for my home office setup. I am using a Rega Brio-R (powerful and small) to drive them. DACs have been an interesting adventure and I have been through a bunch of them. That is the only "undecided" part of my system, but it sounds fantastic.
  4. I ordered the DAC Magic 100 earlier this week from Audio Advisor and I wasn't expecting to see it for a few weeks. I just got an e-mail today that it shipped already. Hoping to have it this weekend to test out and will provide some feedback.
  5. I just had this with the Peachtree Audio DAC iT ... ironically, I have used the DAC Magic Plus and had no issue.
  6. I am going to be auditioning these over the weekend in my home office environment and wondering if anyone has had success with other amps. I will be testing them with a Rega Brio-R and also an Emotiva UPA-2. Any other recommendations/successes?
  7. If you look at the Sherbourne web site, they are located in Franklin, TN and on the exact same street as Emotiva .... coincidence????
  8. Thanks for all the great feedback and comments. Part of my challenge is that I have a large desk and there is no way for me to put speakers "behind" my desk and there is no space to the right or left of my desk. I went and listened to the Adam A3x and A7x active monitors today. They sounded pretty good, but it was not an optimal room to audition them. Right now, my likely replacement setup will be: iMac->M2Tech hiFace-> Emotiva XDA-1 DAC --> Focal CMS 40 or Adam A5x Still doing research and trying to find the optimal solution..... Erik
  9. Al, Just a quick question.. on your home office setup, why don't you go USB straight from your computer to the HD-10? Erik
  10. Thanks for your note! I noticed in your signature that you went with the Audioengine P4 speakers in your home office. Are these considered passive monitors? What is the difference between passive monitors, bookshelf speakers, and "regular" hi-fi speakers?
  11. Chris - I did not think about passive monitors as an option. Are the D5's passive monitors or just regular speakers? I am not familiar with too many solid near-field passive options... any suggestions? Thanks, Erik
  12. I have a "traditional" setup in my home office which includes an iMac, a Peachtree Audio Decco and a pair of Silverline Audio minuets. My home office is about 13ft. x 10ft. When I sit on my couch in the back of my office, my hi-res music sounds pretty darn good, however, I spend most of my time sitting at my desk and needless to say, 3 feet from my speakers is not the "sweet spot". I have done my homework on active monitors and know which ones to trial, but my first question is, are many of the folks on CA using an active monitor setup vs. a traditional hi-fi setup at the spot where their main computer resides? I have always thought that monitors were more for recording professionals, but clearly for near-field applications (like sitting at a computer desk), this is a really nice option! Not looking to swap out my entire setup, but hey, we are all gadget freaks and trading up for bigger toys is always fun, right? Your thoughts/advice would be greatly appreciated! Erik
  13. I would really love to hear any comments/feedback. I have researched DACs to death at this point, but would like to know if a v-Link is a good idea or go the full external DAC route. Thanks, Erik
  14. Let me first say that this is for my home office system! As you can see from my signature, my current arrangement leverages a Peachtree Audio Decco as my DAC (and pre-amp, amp etc.). I read the summary here and the V-Link sounds very intriguing. The next step up from there (for me) is adding an Arcam rDAC to my config. Based on my current config, if I go for the V-Link, I think the DAC in my Decco is a weak link. Is V-Link a worthy "upgrade" or do I jump to something like the rDAC? I appreciate any input! Regards, Erik
  15. I have the same dilemma... this is for my home office system ... I want to add an asynchronous USB DAC to my configuration but not sure which way to go. My current setup is: 27" iMac --> TosLink --> Peachtree Audio Decco --> Silverline Audio Minuets Thanks for any input, Erik
