  1. I was thinking the same thing. Hopefully Chris will get one for review, they are sponcers after all... It's way overdue.
  2. I can't comment on how the D1compares to the other two; but on it's own it's a great value for the money. I bought one a few weeks ago and can attest to the fact that it works well with Macy's and PC's (althought PC's can require a little work). It makes streams sound very good and high quality rips get you very good results. I would avoid a modded anything (living in Turkey) unless you know a good technician. Check out the D1 thread on head-fi. Good luck. Tony
  3. ACR silver reference in half meter and one meter, hand made in the USA and available on agon. I haven't compared them to anything of note but they were a setup over el cheapo.

    Made in USA!

I don't really need it but I had to order the Schiit Bitfrost DAC... Hand made in America, with great spec's for a very reasonable price. It's on pre-order but I can't wait. Best part is I learned about it here!
  5. In addition to attinuation try using a powered USB hub. The combo worked very well for me until I upgraded to the M2tech Evo.
  6. Either way the Kaiser Chiefs have been on my turntable (and playlist) for a week or so. I can't seam to get enough of the album "yours truly, angry mob". Maybe it's time for something different tonight.
  7. My amps (which I will most likely never replace) are about 23 years old, serial number 00009 and 00010, making them David Manley's 5th pair of production VTL Compact 100's. The EL34's are NOS Mullard xf2's from the 1970s... My Levinson Dac is about 11 years old and still holds its own, processing 32/96, while the Mac Mini and M2Tech Evo are about a year old if even. My preamp (not listed below) just came back from the designer with his lastest updates, it's all of 1 month old. The sad part is that while lots of cool new gear is out there, upgrading just doesn't justify the cost...
  8. I saw their power supply the other day on their website. I asked about availability and pricing but I haven't heard back yet. If I do I'll post it here. I mostly use the linear power supply, however I did pick up the Sanyo Peddle Juice battery which provides about 7 hours use...
  9. I've been using the Inday (SPDIF or ADAT 4x1 Digital Audio Switcher) to go the other way; multi in -> single out for years without any problems. It a great prouct in that it adds nothing and takes away nothing. For $60 with a 30 day return policy you have little downside exposure. Tony
  10. For about $20 you can get a dock extension cable (sorry I don't recall who makes it) and try out the IPad with the Wadia that way. Also I've heard the Wadia 170 with the CI Audio power pack and it made a noticeable difference on a friends rig.
  11. I've gotten spotty results with the ceapo switching battery. Sometimes a charge is good for hours, and other times minutes. But sonically battery power does have an advantage over the inexpensive linear ps. I remember a gentle swearing by some batter made for musicians... Sanyo maybe. I may have to look into it further, as the built and noise level should be quite good. Thanks for the tips guys... Only wish I had the time and tools for DIY. Tony
  12. @sq225917 Google didn't help much, so why is this important in Layman terms if you would be so kind? Thanks. For now I'm enjoying the easy of use with the linear ps. Tony
  13. OK so I took the Evo plunge and must admit it sounds substantially better than the stock Hiface, even with the cheap wall wart power supply. Having read the various posts I wanted to see just how good it could sound, with a new power supply (that won’t break the bank). First up was the rechargeable 9v NiMH battery; 2 Tenergy 9V 250mAh NiMH Rechargeable Batteries w/ charger; cost under $20 on eBay. While the sound quality was superb and far superior to the wall wart the 9v rechargeable batteries get a failing grade due to the short play time and long recharge time. It takes over 12 hours to fully charge and runs dry in under an hour of playing time. Next up was the 9v (switchable) Li-ion battery; DC 5V 9V 12V Portable Rechargeable CCTV Li-ion battery w/ charger; cost approximately $40 on eBay. Here too the sound quality is superb plus the battery has a much longer life. Not sure of the exact number but it lasted for 2 sessions both about 2 hours long. Additionally it can be used while charging (haven’t tried that yet). Overall it gets a strong passing grade. Last on the list was a 60W linear power supply; 60W Linear Power supply for T-AMP TA2024 TA2020 DAC ; cost just under $100 w/shipping from eBay The sound quality is most certainly better than the wall wart (by far) but I’m not sure that is surpasses the battery powered options. Interesting to note, that while this is sold as a 12v power supply it can be easily modified (lowered) using just a multi meter and a very small screw driver. I currently have it set at 10.25V. Overall it gets a passing grade both on sound quality and ease of use. I’ll do some more comparisons over the weekend but I’m leaning toward using both the linear power supply for casual listening and the Li-ion battery for detailed sessios. So there you have it, substantial power upgrades for under $100… Hope that helps. Tony
  14. @iamoneagain "I'm using headphones so Amarra kind of surrounds me vs Audirvana is just in front of me with wider stage." You've made an interesting comparison about personal taste. Every concert/club/park I've ever been to I always tried to position myself front and center. So right or wrong it's all about preference... Tony P.S. I'm one of those old tube guys - ya baby!
  15. I've got Johnny Cash covering "Your own personal Jesus", what a flip. Tonight's the first time I've gotten your app to work. Thanks for fixing the M2Tech issue. I just upgraded from the Hiface to the Evo. Ah, the B-52's give me back my man... Now that's a reason to turn it up. Oh ya, went from Decibel to Audirvana, and changed from XLR to ST glass. So I've got a lot going on, but I've go a feeling it's going to be a 2 Martini night. Thanks again. Tony
