  1. yes, i thought this would be fun to do myself, and having a degree in electrical engineering i figured it ought to be easy... given the amount of time i can dedicate to this hobby i should have hired a pro to do it for me. having said that, now that it kinda works okay, it's been kinda fun. i'm definitely interested in the easy wireless solution, a la sooloos, but was trying to have two set-up: one wired audiophile situation, and one less good quality audio but much more portable solution. my idea though was to try and derive the second bit from the first... so, set-up a great wired audiophile solution where my sound system is, and then access that music from all other satellite players (whether remote site or iphone etc). seems like mirroring of the "master" data to several other "local servers" is the way to go. anyways, thanks so much for your input.
  2. i'll experiment with your ideas. i'm starting to get a better idea of how to navigate this sea.
  3. 1/ good idea i'll try 2,4/ yes, although the data is acked up on my time capsule and ideally i dont want to do any manual schlepping... 3/ yes i've been doing that; sometimes though the tracks get weird mixed composer/director/artist tags so they appear to be from different albums appreciate the help!
  4. thanks very much for your help. 1/ i upgraded to amarra 2.11 and rebooted the mac mini. that seems to have done the trick. except for one particular ripped cd, between 2 specific tracks (the cd doesn't have the problem). i'll do some more investigating. 2/ sure. but i'm looking for a way to remotely sync the iphone. let me know if you've heard of anything. 3/ i'll more data on this when i rip my whole cd collection, but for now, i've definitely seen several cds become an unrelated collection of tracks. 4/ i'll take a look. thanks again
  5. I spent a great deal of time and money over my christmas holiday in setting up a music server. After struggling in setting up a headless mac mini server, i am now confronted with several problems which are making me wonder whether this is all worth it. 1/ why am i hearing ripping sounds when i play 96khz music (downloaded from hdtracks and converted from flac to aiff)? sounds like a scratched LP. 2/ how do i sync my iphone with my music server? my iphone dock is in my office, not where the music server lives (living room). 3/ why is it a nightmare to organize classical music (metadata)? after ripping cds, itunes constantly messes up the albums. 4/ how do i access my music server from my country house? thanks for your help. set-up= mac mini (8GB ram, 750GB HD), itunes/amarra, ayre qb9 dac, ayre system.
