  1. I use FLAC2Mac for funnily enough the mac, it has three options to convert FLAC to either Apple Lossless, itunes plus or WAV files. Very simple to use simply drag and drop. Its free too... But I still cant get hi res tracks to go on either the ipod or iphone,I haven't tried the itunes plus conversion yet. I'm praying the new ipod/iphone can handle at least 24/96 Apple Lossless in conjunction with all this rumour surrounding itunes and hi res music. I'm not confident but heres hoping. Wouldn't it be great to be able to listen to amazing high resolution music on a bus, on a plane or wherever you feel like?? portability would make this obsession so much better.
  2. Hi guys this is more of a discovery rather than a question. I have been using a radio app on my iphone for a while now and since apple allowed the iphone to stream to an Airport Express using airplay I've been mixing up my Music in my music room between my Server and also direct from my iphone. Now the thing is this app called Tunein Radio gives me access to thousands of stations all over the world as well as searching for the url of a particular stream. So in the last week I found three feeds from Linn, including 'Linn Classical', 'Linn Jazz' and 'Linn Radio'. The feeds are 320kbps and actually sound pretty damn good. I have been hearing complaints all over audio sites on the web about the ability to stream radio to particular devices and especially people using an airport express that they cant add stations to the itunes radio directory. Ive found that this way i can listen to awesome quality music from a source that i know has quality in the forefront of their minds. Just thought i'd share this with everyone sorry if its treading old ground. Btw the app was $1.19AU when i got it so pretty cheap i reckon,Hope this helps a few people to enjoy some more music... Just a quick addition- i was just flicking through some settings on my receiver and while i am streaming the Linn stream my receiver is getting a 7.1 'Multichannel PCM @ 48khz' feed in the input. Now i wasn't sure if the AE can even send that signal through a Toslink cable but thats what my receiver is saying. I know its different because when i stream music from itunes through the AE the input is always displayed as 2.0 PCM @48khz. Something interesting.
  3. i read just tonight that there is a site called "Red Wine Audio" which for about $250 will modify an ipod 4th or 5th generation so that the output connections are "audiophile grade". It doesnt alter the sample rate i dont think but is a hardware modification, heres the link. http://www.redwineaudio.com/products/imod I agree that the ipod is a mass market item that doesnt have to cater to people with higher listening standards to make money, it is successful because it's easy and can fit heaps of mp3 music on it. You would think that eventually it will have to evolve into a hi-res audio player. Hopefully sooner rather than later. Who knows maybe all at once apple will come out with 96/24 ipods/iphones, airport express and the like. Dream for now...
