  1. Please include a cost comparison in your summary.
  2. Sorry Peter, I'm not following what you are trying to say.
  3. Local audio shop let me try out at home a DACmagic and while I liked the simpleness and flexibility it provided, in my situation I did not hear a difference so I'm still looking. Do not take my observations too seriously as my set up is not anything close to audiophile. Right now I'm in the stage of life of music enjoyment, but wanting to purchase for future better situations, however on a beer budget. I'm keeping my eye on the Metrum Acoustics NOS Mini DAC Quad http://www.nosminidac.nl/NOS_mini_DAC_English.html Reviews: http://www.audiocircle.com/index.php?topic=93939.0 http://www.hifi.nl/recensies/4265/Metrum-Acoustics-NOS-Mini-DACs.html The big brother of it, Octave, is getting raves; http://www.6moons.com/audioreviews/metrum/1.html
  4. I joined free Spotify about a week ago and still have no invites to share - is it only with premium?
  5. Yup, bought the Krauss Live DVD today and all I find is 16/48.
  6. I've wondered about the DVD - Thanks! Is there 24 bit 2 channel on there?
  7. Alison Krauss & Union Station - Live, it has been releaed as SACD.
  8. New to computer audio - I have a 16 bit/96 DAC, will the higher rez downloads sound better as described above? And if they do, best to down sample in foobar as they are playing, convert them in dBpoweramp or otherwise? Thanks in advance.
  9. DACisions, DACisions, I am now at a point where the DAC is my last major piece, I think. Next week I'll take delivery of a set of Turning Point Audio red Hybrid Radials, can not wait. I am using old Dell laptop, that seems to take longer than the tube amp to awaken, to a MkI moded hiFace USB/BNC to DAC to Decware Torrii. Right now using a $60 4xTDA1543 NOS DAC to experiment with while sorting foobar and it all out, but guessing it will now be the weakest link in the system. Here in Iowa don't really have opportunity to listen and test out gear so have done lots of reading on the intranet, which I have enjoyed, but has left my head spinning too. Like my exploration of Bonsai, looking for music to enrich my life and and enjoy with my family, but for now no way at the Master audiophile level. And have a limit on budget, trying to stay below $350. or less especially if it not really going to gain much and that is where I need your help. Looking for great involving sound for our 13'x 30'+ great room. Now keeping eye on various classifieds on forums and Audiogon and would appreciate any of your thoughts. I do have some 24 bit downloads and DVD-audio disks that I'm ripping so wonder is it better to convert those in foobar to the well regarded AudioSector 16-bit NOS DAC or go with up-sampling like a used Bel Canto DAC 1.1 with PCM1704 that comes up every so often for about $350? Local audio shop does have the Cambridge DACmagic I could probably actually get in home listen, but that DAC always seems to be the one people are moving away from on the net, or have I been reading the wrong threads, and/or is it good enough for my intended use? Other options I have read about include another mid-west direct to consumer company (like Decware) Ross Martin’s Audio Designs DAC PCM1794 in $200+ price range and they build it anyway you want including BNC for me. Also thinking about often mentioned Music Fidelity V-DAC that come up used for about $230 periodically. Thanks in advance,
  10. Setting up my first computer based to system and leaning towards JRMC - is PlugPlayer still the best remote for iPod touch and iPad? Wish it could use the Apple remote like MM and Foobar.
  11. Well, that didn't work. MM still does not see AIFF files and in configure inputs it did not see that plugin so any help with MM and AIFF files would be appreciated.
  12. Checking out different players as just starting to use laptop as a server - was having problem with MediaMonkey not even seeing aiff files, but did some more Googling and found aiff here http://home.scarlet.be/ruben.castelein/MM/MM-Plugins.htm so will see if that works on MM.
  13. Have been using the search in this and other forums and not seeing recent answers, but sorry in advance if I missed them: Like to use Foobar for my software, but while trying it out seems it does not play nice with AIFF files - is that correct or is there a way to get it to show/organize Album and Artist tags like it seems to do for FLAC?
