  1. forget question 1 - I found the log. Will I be able to use remote desktop to access this installation?
  2. Hi John, I got 2 questions: 1: did you ever post the log with the tweaks you applied? I obviously don't see it. 2: could you do this with Win8 embedded, once it becomes available, for eg one or all of the CAPS 3 configurations? Dieter
  3. Where do I find the drivers? on the download page of ARC I still only see 1.25....
  4. http://jplay.eu/forum/computer-audio/new-hot-rod-server/
  5. it can also convert aiff to many other formats, including flac. itunes will NOT play flac.
  6. Mark, have you maybe set jriver to start with admin privileges? (you set this in the properties/compatibility settings of the executable or any link to the executable). I get this error when jriver is started as administrator and jplay is not or vice versa. As for me, I have set both programs to start with admin-rights. hope this helps. Dieter
  7. Album Artist (auto) is the field I sort and order by. It is always filled, even if Album Artist is not.
  8. Vangelis, the improvement from OSX/PureMusic to Bootcamp/Win7/JRMC is at least as big as the improvement from AQ Carbon to Diamond. I tried all 3 AQ cables against my DIY cable with 5N silver and eventually decided for the Diamond as you did.
  9. Priaptor, no issues with 4Gig here. with JPLAY4iTunes i don't have any convenience issues at all. In this regard it's certainly working better then Amarra, comparable to bitperfect, if you ask me. I can work iTunes completely normal. In order to compare SQ you should INMHO use the same hardware/system setup for both JRMC and JPLAY w/o hibernation. Dieter
  10. Priaptor, be careful to allow exclusive access and make windows use 16bit (not 24) with any other settings I get regular lockdown of DAC8 drivers with JPLAY. Start -> devices & printers -> right-click on Dac8 WDM device -> sound settings -> select DAC8 -> properties -> advanced -> drop-Down box: 16bit... -> 2 other boxes checked. iTunes I have organized this way: 1 smart playlist for each sample-rate (44.1 / 48 / 88.2 / 96) within the sample rate I have the browser enabled (genre & artist) hope this helps cheers Dieter
  11. Priaptor, I could not agree more. But how to best get this organized? I hope there are a few members on this board with "connections" to ARC, willing to help. did you get a chance to play with JPLAY?
  12. I guess ARC is not developing the USB input & drivers themselves. In the device info in Windows I found the name RigiSystems. Google then led me to this page: http://www.rigisystems.net/index.php/usbpalen.html unfortunately they do not provide generic drivers for download but one of their services is the development of custom drivers for both OSX and Windows.
  13. just fyi: I wanted to know, so I called a representative at ARC yesterday to talk about their drivers. He did confirm what Priaptor stated in his initial post, that they did have issues keeping up with OSX release changes, he did however decline, that the OSX drivers were inferior to the windows drivers in terms of sound quality. First of all, he did not yet know about this thread and was "surprised" that some of us find the sound quality quite better under windows. But he could somehow imagine that it is true, as only windows allows to bypass IS internal sound paths (Mixer etc.) Under OSX this is apparently not possible... I would not know myself I only try to Quote from memory. According to ARC there is now way around this and we should not expect any improved drivers for OSX. I am in no position to judge whether he told the absolute truth or twisted it in their favor or simply pulled my leg. However, I night have circumstantial evidence to support his claim. When I play a track with Amarra under OSX, not only Amarra but also core audio and "kernel_task" are always quite active. Under windows only the player software and the VNC server for (headless operation) show any CPU usage. Then I talked to him about the issue with JPLAY, explaining that automatic sample rate switching is only supported when ASIO output is selected/supported. He was sort of willing to concede this as a shortcoming and promised to pass it on to engineering.... if this will help, only time will tell.
  14. Sorry Priaptor, my statement was phrased quite unclear and I apologize. It was referring to the improvement from Mini/bootcamp/Jriver to CAPS2/Jriver. Your description made me (wrongfully?) believe that it was, in general terms, (quite) small compared to the first step of switching from Mini/Amarra to Mini/Bootcamp/Jriver. I concur, after personal experience, that the step from Mini/Amarra to Mini/Bootcamp/Jriver is HUGE indeed, and I need 'some' justification for further investing into a CAPS 2. That aside, I hope you give JPLAY another try as I am very interested in your experience. To me it is like the difference between PM/Audirvana and Amarra 2.3. I am even more curious about what impact the Wavelink will have and if it will confirm that it's "only" the DAC8 drivers or if there's more to this. Dieter
  15. Priaptor, Sounds like not SO BIG a further improvement to me? @JPLAY: that was exactly the message I was/am getting. btw: you get the same message from JRMC if you use WASAPI or KS as audio output method. Changing manually with the ARC utility will cure this problem, but at the cost of reduced usability. I tried to talk the guys at JPLAY to add some sort of ASIO support (at least to do the automatic switching) but had no luck. It sounded so good to me though that I still went ahead and bought it. My reasoning was: still less effort than changing a vinyl record or even a CD :-) Dieter
