  1. Please be aware that Innuos cannot handle Roon if you want to use Roon's advanced features please see from Innous's web site As a Roon Player only Connect to another system running Roon Core and use as a player only. This is useful if you plan to use Roon with computationally-heavy Digital Signal Processing (DSP) scenarios, where a very powerful computer is required to perform the heavy-duty processing, such as upsampling to DSD. ROON LIMITATIONS WITHIN INNUOS SERVERS innuOS Servers currently use Intel Quad-Core CPUs which are powerful enough for music server duties whilst maintaining the system fanless and limiting the amount of power-noise polluting the audio system. The main task requiring very heavy computational requirements is the DSP processing within Roon. With the current hardware, upsampling CD-Quality files to DSD128 and DSD256 will not work properly. Upsampling CD-Quality files to DSD64 works when this DSP setting is being used stand-alone, as well as upsampling to PCM 384KHz. Combination of DSP settings which require more computational power than currently present will result in stuttering music. If you plan to use DSP on Roon heavily, we suggest to install Roon as scenario 3, using the innuOS server as a Roon player only and using a powerful PC (Windows/Mac) as the Roon Core server. I found out the hard way!!
  2. Jonathan Tinn posts on this site you could ask him directly regarding his software. http://www.whatsbestforum.com/showthread.php?4356-2X-DSD-streaming-from-my-server-thru-the-Playback-Designs-MPS-5......WOW!!! Hope this helps Mike
  3. I do not know the full answer to your question but I've copied a couple of points from their web page Q&A Can I stream 24 bit / 96 kHz signals or higher from a PC to the HD20? Yes you can. The HD20 can stream native 24 bit / 96 kHz audio over the USB connection. What type of units can I connect to the HD20? You can connect computer that has a true USB output with ability to supply power through the USB port. This generally covers any computer or laptop on the market today. The coaxial and optical inputs can connect to most products with a similar output and capability to send out a PCM coded signal up to 24 bit / 192 kHz resolution. If this is not enough info then I would contact Hegal direct as I've always found them to be very helpful Regards mike
  4. In response to earflappin. Your comments you make are very valid and I would have great difficulty in proving then wrong, all I can say is that when I played the original CD's the difference in sound from one to another was not as great as the difference as when played via the Young, perhaps the CD player had a sound all of it's own?
  5. I've had both the Young and the Hegel HD20 playing in my system. I found that the Young varied on playback, some tracks sounded better, some the same and some worse, whereas with the HD20 all tracks sounded better. On the tracks that the Young sounded good it was excellent the only aspect that put me off was that it wasn't consistent across all tracks, and it is recognised that to get the best out of the Young you need to invest in a better power supply and throw the wall wart in the bin.The HD20 on the other hand was very consistent across all tracks. The HD20 is now a permanent part of my system and I have no regrets even though it cost more money. I was not using Hi-Rez just FLAC rips of CD's I own and know very well. Regards Mike
  6. I use optical for output as I found that better than USB I only use 16/44 Mike
  7. Hi I have one on loan at the moment and I can find not fault with the sound at all, the only other DAC that I can compare it to is the Young M2Tech, in my system and to my ears the Hegel is far better. I am not too sure how good the volume control is as I do not use it. I use the Hegel with a Dell Zino running AlbumPlayer, on Windows 7, MF Nu-Vista Pre-amp, Nu-vista 300 power amp, Amphion Krypton speakers. Mike
  8. Hi It looks like you can get one for £250 - £300 as you say it looks very interesting at that price. Mike
