1. Dear flat6, I'm right now using toslink cable to connect my iMac to the alpha DAC. I've also think of your approach, but would you consider Minerva instead of Vesta? According to our sole agent, Minerva can also be used as a Firewire interface (2 channels only) as Vesta with outstanding de-jitter function (even better than that of Lynx AES16). So you can have 2 different high-end DAC using firewire, the extra cost is only around US1000. What do you think? av
 2. Thanks for your reply, Chris.

It's really frustrating, I switched my OS from Window to Mac , partly because of the better performance of itune in mac than that in Window. Is the AFI1 or Vesta from Weiss the only solution for 24/192 output ?

By the way, will the light of HDCD on when the output from my iMac is bit-perfect? What can I do if the light is off when playing music in iTune?

Thanks in advance for your help.

av
 3. Hi, Chris

I finally got my alpha DAC few days ago, but only able to hook it up last night. It's a amazing DAC, in addition to the soundstaging, the vocal and the musical instruments are so alive, just like in my room. Thanks for your recommendation.

I also copy the file from HRx sampler in WAV and AIFF format (using Max) in my iMac, connecting to the DAC by a optical cable (Wireworld SupraNova), and to K&H O300 directly. However, from the screen of the DAC, the iMac is outputting 96kHz signal to the DAC. Is there anything wrong in my iMac setting?

With regards,

WF
 4. Dear Chris, Really excited to your coming comment on the convertor. How does it compared with the optical output using Toslink cable from iMac? avreality
 5. Dear Chris, Thanks for your great articles, particularly the reference music server. My current set-up is LaCie 1T external HD iMac 2.4G (Supernova Toslink cable) Lavry DA10 (Wireworld Silver Eclipse XLR) K&H O110 active monitor I'm going to upgrade my DAC Lavry DA10 to alpha DAC from Berkeley Audio Design. You've mentioned that the AES is the best way for this new DAC, I just wonder how big is the difference by using the Toslink cable with mini-Toslink adapter. If there is huge difference, apart from switching to the Mac Pro + Lynx sound card, can I use the Weiss AFI1 firewire interface to connect my iMac to the new DAC? How dose it sounds compared to your reference music server? Regards
 6. Here is the thread about CD ripping using different computer systems/softwares/CD writers: http://www.designwsound.com/dwsblog/?p=576 Any comment?
 7. Dear Chris, First of all, I would like to thank you for your effort in computer audiophile. I actually build my system following your advise: iMac (firewired to 1G LACie harddisk) > Wireworld SuperNova Toslink cable > Lavry DA10 > Wireworld Silver eclipse XLR > K & H O110. I'm planning to upgrade my DAC and have gone through a lot of reviews of 'high-end' DACs including yours. Right now I'm considering the Digital Audio Denmark AX24-DA2 (stereo version). Any comment? Back to the topic, would you mind telling me what toslink cable are you using? From my experience, Toslink cable glass optic fibre (Wireworld & VDH) is far better than the plastic or other materials, that's why I switched from Audioquest OptiLink-5 (quartz fibres) to Wireworld one. Best regards, avreality
