  1. When turning it on always made me happy and every once in a while it surprised me. Now playing:
  2. The Allo stuff seems to be getting attention lately: https://www.allo.com/sparky/boss-dac.html FWIW, I would not trust any of these devices direct to a power amp. Boom!
  3. If I'm in a rental with SXM I might listen to him over part of a long drive. I also enjoy the Dead and Springsteen channels. It's mostly live stuff so the crappy audio is less of a bother.
  4. foobar2000 is still very much "in the game", but not particularly for the purpose you want. You might experiment with its SoX Resampler component: https://hydrogenaud.io/index.php/topic,67373.0.html
  5. I think you mean "Raspbian" which is a custom build of Debian. You shouldn't redirect to "analog", but to something like "allo-boss-dac". Some ideas here: https://forum.modmypi.com/technical-support/allo-boss-raspberry-pi-master-dac-t1369-10.html#p6127 But it looks like they gave up. Allo may be able to give you a suggestion based on this. Or switch to one of their suggested OS and use whatever music player it supports. Or, try LibreELEC for RPi: https://forum.libreelec.tv/thread/9405-solved-how-to-get-allo-boss-hi-fi-dac-running/
  6. I'm unclear, are you running Audacious on the RPi? What Linux distro is on the RPi?

  8. Fair enough and powerline is a fine solution assuming you've had no problems with it. I would rethink my approach to get down to a 16-port switch. Run a few CAT6 lines to each floor and figure a 4-port switch near your entertainment center. Even just two ports on each floor lets you plug in a mesh wireless station and a small switch if needed. When we remodeled, my general contractor pulled 11 lines (labor included in his bid) back to a small closet where I mounted a gigabit switch and modem to a piece of plywood on the wall. I then had a network specialist (found on Craigslist) come in to punch down the RJ45s and test everything with me. My extra out-of-pocket was around $1000.
  9. "Other" - Logitech Media Server for listening. foobar2000 for file conversion. Mp3tag for managing tags.
  10. Guide here: http://wiki.hydrogenaud.io/index.php?title=EAC_and_FLAC
  11. Run a DLNA server (e.g. MinimServer) on a PC and point it to the Vault2 as file source. If you don't want to use a PC, a Raspberry Pi can act in the same capacity.
  12. Install MinimServer on the NAS: http://minimserver.com/downloads/ Wire the Ayre to his network. Use whatever PC or mobile UPnP/DLNA controller you prefer. JRiver is one; Ayre's mconnect is another. It's covered in the Ayre manual.
  13. If I did the math correctly, the PCM needs much more bandwidth: DSD256 = 11.288 Mb/sec PCM32/768 = 49.145 Mb/sec
  14. Can you access the drive from one of your networked PCs? If not, Sonos can't see it either. Plug the USB drive into a PC and all will be fine. You'll need to have the PC on to play files. http://forums.xfinity.com/t5/X1/USB-Port-on-X1-System/td-p/2887034
