  1. For the past year I have been playing my system at approx. 34% of full volume for streaming music. I have to boost it to 41% for FLAC stored media. (note: my system has a max vol. of 80, so playing at a setting of 27 = 34%). Not sure if this is normal but it does seam to be a high %. Also, don't understand why stored media requires a higher setting. Any thoughts / comments would be appreciated. Thanks, Stan
  2. Just posted this on the DAC Forum and think it is relevent to this thread. "I had a "click" problem when playing directly from DAC to power Amp. Every 44 kHz cd I played started with a click. The first time I played a 96 kHz cd the speakers nearly exploded except for the power Amp clipping feature saving the day. Finally I put a pre Amp back in the system and the clicking stopped completly." Note: I am using a Bricasti M1 DAC. Stan
  3. Had a very similar "click" problem when playing directly from DAC to power Amp. Every 44 kHz cd I played started with a click. The first time I played a 96 kHz cd the speakers nearly exploded except for the power Amp clipping feature saving the day. Finally I put a pre Amp back in the system and the clicking stopped completly.
  4. For several months now I have been playing music directly through the Bricasti M1 into the power Amp while I wait for the upgrade to the pre Amp to be completed. Under this direct feed setup, I have noticed a soft click through both speakers when I hit the JRiver 19 "Play" button. Last night, after listening to several 44Hz CD's from the PC, I selected a 96Hz CD and the speakers made a shockingly loud "CRASH" and the system went dead. I checked the volume level on the M1 and noted it was unchanged from -38dB. The power Amp had faulted, protecting itself and the speakers. A check of all connections and JRiver settings did not uncover any issues. After resetting the power Amp and change JRiver to play silence on startup there have not been any issues with either 44Hz or 96Hz playback. Does anyone have any thoughts on why this issue occured? Thanks,
  5. Thanks, Will try the power bar and pre amp as soon as it returns from upgrade.
  6. Recently I bypassed the preAmp and ran the DAC directly to the Amp. When I hit "play" in JRiver, a soft click is heard from both speakers. I set JRiver to a 1 sec. silence delay before playing but the click still exists. Anyone have any info / thoughts on why the speakers make this startup click? Thanks, Stan
  7. Appreciate all the feedback. I plan to continue with DSD as so far it sounds great. Please let me know if the correct JRiver19 Audio Device selection should be: "AeVee Labs USB Audio [WASAPI]" (I'm using a Bricasti M1 DAC that requires this AeVee Lab driver) Thanks, Stan
  8. Thank you for your replies. Success with selecting DSD on Bitstreaming! After further reading I found this discussion that may limit my plunge into DSD Why DSD is a terrible idea in 2013 Stan
  9. Recently took the plunge into the DSD experiance and downloaded Rimsky K. Scheherazade from HDTT, DVD128. When played through JRiver 19 the Audio Path shows: Input 705.6 kHz 64 bit 2 ch from source format DSF Changes: Resample from 705.6 kHz to 176.4 kHz Output 176.4 kHz 24 bit (padded) 2 ch using WASAPI (not using enough bits to output the input directly) My question is, do I need to make any changes to my setup or is this change related to the quality level of the DVD download? Thanks, Stan
  10. Thanks Chris, I agree, it is probably a software problem. I have read and re-read the CA Win7 Audio set up and have not been able to find any errors in my settings. What is most perplexing is that the unit plays for several weeks and suddenly stops playing. Anyway, the fine folks at Ayre are working with me on this and I will provide an update on the resolution. Thanks again, Stan
  11. Not sure where best to post this topic so I'll start here. For the last several months I have been having a problem with playing music through my system. During playback the music will stop playing. The DAC will show "44" but no sound. I am able to play through the PC/TV/pre-amp/amp/speakers but not through the DAC. When I check the settings in the Windows control panel and test the DAC, it shows "48" and will continue to show "48" when I try playback with JR Media Center. Any idea on if this is a Windows, PC or DAC problem? Thanks, Stan
  12. FYI, the hiss/stutter problem has been solved by switching to WASAPI Event Style. Still no solution to the rip problem but am considering a seperate CD drive to handle the rejects. Still don't see any good instructions on JRMC 15 set up. There are several differances from 14 e.g. in DSP Studio there is no "Source Sample Rate". JRMC 15 offers ; No resampling All sources 48,000 96,000 Any advise on the sample rate would be appreciated. Thanks, Stan
  13. So there I was, merrily ripping away my cd collection on my new PC and at the end of each day listining to my music on my: Dell XPS 8100 / Win 7 Ultimate / JRMC 15 Iomega 2tb esata back up Ayre QB-9 Transparent USB cable Kimber Ayre K5xe Kimber Mark Levinson 432 Audioquest Revel Studio 2 Day 1, configure system and software to Computer Audiophile instructions (Exclusive mode, WASAPI, secure rip, FLAC-level 6, 24 bit, no resampling ... Start ripping and end of day play back - lovely! All is well! Day 2, continue ripping but at end of day Brandenberg Concerto will not rip and JRMC locks up - have to use task manager to end JRMC. Try ripping Brandenberg on other Vista PC and all is well. Day 3, continue ripping music but Brandenberg puts CD drive into a high speed mode that cannot be shut down. Task manager won't open and Win7 shut down locks up - after ~20 min. pull plug! Day 4, play back of ripped music is corrupt. Everything recoreded after day 1 has hiss/stutter/reduced volume output. CD's played in the CD drive continue to produce excellent playback as well as Internet radio. I have checked all settings but cannot find the fault so I suspect either computer error or, more likely, operator error. Please offer any guidance you may have short of cliff jumping! Thank you, Stan
  14. Matt & Bill, thanks for the info. Matt, I don't know how to change to M3U. I have read both set up guides and confirmed my settings for both the PC and JRMJ and still cannot solve the problem. Bill, I was not clear on the "it", it is the "Podcast" on the JRMJ. Possibly this is the problem? I don't see any other access for the Internet. In any event, I have ordered a new PC and will install JRMC on it and hopefully I will have access to the Internet through my stereo system. Thanks again, Stan
