  1. Looking for a MiniDSP SHD (with A/ D and D/A) in good working order. Please send me a PM if you have one you no longer need. Don't need the mike.
  2. GUTB, Are you deliberately trying to be provocative? I have heard two B&O speakers with iCEpower amps and could happily live with either: Beolab 5 and Beolab 80. What exactly Is the matter with iCEpower amps?
  3. 4 Channel output is perfect for 2.2 stereo.
  4. Just wondering if any FreeNAS users are running MinimServer and streamer? If so, comments would be appreciated. Thank in advance.
  5. Thanks for the kind offer. No need for links. I have the Win 7 install disc.
  6. Thanks for the generous offer. Yes, I am in NYC. I'd like to try Win 7 first, will contact you if that does not work.
  7. Thanks. I'll try win 7. Dumped my last XP machine a few years ago, a mistake in retrospect as it had serial and parallel ports.
  8. Rando, thanks for the post. No, the 'kids' method will not work for me. Don't want strangers in my residence, and I want the job done right. I fear you have missed the point of my post. Reports indicate that the combination of new Nimbie drivers, Db poweramp and recent versions of windows do not work. I was trying to find out which would be the most recent version of windows and drivers that might work.
  9. Thanks for the reply. Can you be a bit more specific as to which OS you used and the driver version for the Nimbie? Edit: I ask as the Nimbie driver and dB Poweramp drivers do not necessarily play nice with each other.
  10. Hello all, I'd like to rip my CD collection, about 3000 CDs and growing, to FLAC. I was was thinking of getting a Nimbie and running it with dB Poweramp's batch ripper. However, based on posts over on the dB Poweramp forum this combo no longer works well, if at all. If any forum members have recently used an auto loading robot to rip their collection, would they please post the combination of hardware and software that was used and how much manual intervention was required? Thanks in advance.
  11. Please tell me where you can find a "Great Recording" - in whatever sense you use the term - of King Oliver or Blind Willie Johnson. A Gazillion collectors will rush out to buy 'em ;-). Great Music. Not so great recordings. Yes, of course, one needs music to listen to a hi-fi system, but AFAIAC the music comes first, then the recording. You may feel differently, but that's fine, one size does not fit all. _______________________________________________________________ I demand (and get) great recordings of great music, all in high resolution analog and high resolution digital. I sell all recordings (physical formats) or hit the delete button (downloads) of music or performances I do not like. A great recording of a bad performance or music one does not like is just as bad as poor recording of a great performance of music one loves. Neither option is acceptable to me. Great recordings of great music is what I love! BTW Hi Fi Gear cannot be listened to without music unless one enjoys test tones (I do not). Music is the primal motivation for turning on ones stereo! Happy listening, Teresa

Sorry, I really don't understand the comment above. Perhaps we could advise you better if you told us what equipment you have, what you want the computer based appliance to do and, for future proofing, what you expect add to the system in the near future.
  13. Thanks for the reply Eliose. I have looked at the Delta 192. I believe only two of the analogue outputs are to full spec. The 'Monitor' output specifications are not stated explicitly which makes me wonder if they are using lower quality DACs. This bring up a pet peeve of mine, why can card makers not give straightforward specs on their cards' inputs and outputs. There are a coupler of Delta cards the 44 and 1010LT that have multiple outputs but all are 24/96 only.
  14. If I understand you correctly, you are looking for a device to store your music files, not for playback. In that case just about any NAS should do. Buy a suitable NAS install the server software of your choice, slimserver, mediatomb, PS3 server, miniDLNA, iTunes, what-have-you, and be up and running in an afternoon. Consider ease of use, stability, compatibility and user interface, and pick a package to suit your needs For NAS reviews see http://www.smallnetbuilder.com/ and look on this forum too. Should you wish to DIY and build a new machine or have an old PC lying around, have a look at VORTEXBOX, a Fedora distro with server, ripper, player support built in. See: vortexbox.org. VB has a strong following with good support from the user community. Installing it is really easy. I have used it for some time and am quite pleased with its stability and ease of use. Hope this helps, feel free to post additional questions.
  15. Are we using music to listen to Hi Fi Gear, or are are we using hi fi gear to listen to Music? I'm in the latter camp. Give me a poor recording of good music and I'm happy. Play me a super recording of an indifferent performance and one partial hearing is all the recording will get. My 0.02C worth....
