  1. Chris,<br /> I also just got back from PJ20 and I was really stoked to see your coverage of Pearl Jam's anniversary shows. I hope you had a chance to check everything out, including the museum. I was going to post a request for you to review the newly-remastered PJ reissues that were released earlier this year. Given the band's affinity for vinyl, I was curious to find out if they were careful to avoid compressing the daylights out of the final mixes. I would love to see a 24/192 release of their next album ala Tom Petty.<br /> As a side note, I sat in front of the soundboard/FOH mixing booth on Sunday. I noticed what appeared to be several mics that seemed to be for room correction. I thought it was interesting to see this used at such a large venue. There are some interesting online articles about Pearl Jam's touring setups over at mix magazines website archives. Also, a nice recording of the first show is up on dimeadozen.org. Your readers might be interested in this site as it specifically hosts shows by bands that allow taping and sharing of their performances. There are some amazing shows there that span all genres of music.
  2. Hi Mike, just thought I would chime in as I also have owned the Diva Ti's and am a musician. For around $2500, I would also recommend the Salk Songtowers (great overall speaker), and I also really liked the Epos M22's (great soundstage). For around the same price, you could try my current setup: a Peachtree Nova and Zu Audio Omen's. It is a pretty satisfying combo that gives you some options, but I really need to do some room treatments to get the best sound given my very live room. It's plenty loud, pretty reasonable, looks good but I must admit I am already wondering what the Salk's would sound like in my room!
  3. Great Music, Great recordings, what more can you say? Thanks for the early Christmas present. I will have fun breaking in my new Zu Omen speakers with these tracks!
  4. JeffH, OK, now that I see it spelled out...it really does look like a good solution. Thanks alot! Would this work on a Mac? I have always been a PC user, but I am thinking about getting an Ipad, and possibly a (used?) mac mini. I am looking for something budget-friendly with a small form factor. I would prefer not to have to build another computer as a used mac mini would be cheaper and alot less hassle.
  5. I do have an old computer that was in fact a music server. It's pretty old and I wouldn't mind getting a mac-mini or smaller computer to replace the beast. I have a small closet with a wireless router and current computer. A NAS with ethernet connection to the router would work well. I use the other PC as part of a recording studio, so perhaps I should not have the server software running constantly on that machine. The vortexbox idea might work well, is it better than simply running the Squeeze server software? I need to read up on the functionality of vortexbox. I guess w/ a NAS, you may or may not get RAID functionality, a processor or memory which speeds things up, lots of terabytes of storage depending on $$, and the cool factor. Is this why most people don't simply set up a shared hard drive on a network? Seems like it would be the cheapest solution. Next question: can vortexbox work on a shared Nas or does it need a computer? Thanks for all the feedback.
  6. Hey everyone, This is my first post, although I have been an avid reader for a short time. I am interested in buying a NAS that will pretty much function as a home theater server/Squeezebox server/photo streamer. I have read enough to realize what most products are capable of, and the need for a true backup system. I have not heard much on this site regarding some of the more mainstream products. What is the general consensus on those NAS brands that are available at places like Fry's? Brands I see pretty regularly include Iomega, Buffalo Technology, D-link, LG, Seagate and Netgear, to name a few. I have a PC based setup now, using a Squeezebox. I would like to get an Ipad in the near future, and use the Squeezebox app to run music throughout house. I imagine anything DLNA friendly would stream video, etc. Has anyone already been down this road, and could recommend a particular approach? Thanks for helping out!
