Amarra 2.3

First a loud "Thank You!" - To CA (and Sonic Studios, despite ... ;-) CA has become my maine source of information - I have learned, listened and copied configurations and advices - Much obliged. And I have reached a level where even my (somewhat stubborn) local suppliers, agrees that computer source based audio might have a future... I started out with nothing a year ago and (to apply a bold mission statement) am still aiming for the best possible computer based Audio System for a medium sized room. Analog being my reference. And will as a newbie stand corrected for multiple mistakes made. I have dished my CD player - I am not using any SW players other than Amarra, as I consider it best of breed and the constant improvements implied, the product is (compared to other investments in high-end audio) extremely cheap, price/performance wise. The 2.3 delivers yet another improvement, but I have a few issues for the Sonic team to consider: I use Amarra (full version) on two workstations (iMac 27" for optimizing and grooming and a dedicated Music server) - Amarra IS my source. I have to change my password constantly (started out with XX, then named it XX1, then XX2, 3, and now 14...) I have been locked out several times before 2.3 and have had to wait for you guys to reset password - sometimes taking many days. Now again pending, even carefully following the directions posted on your site. This is not acceptable and please take in to consideration that I trust you to be be my one and only source to my music. Being in a business with the utmost discriminating audience (quoting you), I would freak out if my ARC Power Amp announced, that I had been "Locked out" and needed "to wait until later" before trying to turn on again - You are an equally important part of the chain. Take this as a positive criticism - I find you being the top-performer in the industry and wish I had not invited friends over for listening this weekend, as it it seems you guys have also left for weekend after some hards days of work on the the new version (great sounding) of Amarra 2.3. Therefore not having the time to help me out. Jakob
  2. From reliable source I have heard that ARC will launch a new DAC in October - This time a Reference model deploying the tubed output stage and power supply used in the CD 8. I know that we at CA have a number of well connected members and wonder if anyone can confirm? Jakob
  3. Rick, I am now the proud owner of a DAC 202 and you mentioned earlier in this thread that you would conduct the experiment of connecting both a DAC 8 and a DAC 202 directly to the power amp for comparison. I think it would be extremely interesting to hear about your findings, as I am completely blown away by the 202s performance connected directly to my PA. It is very transparent... But I do recognize, that your setup is a bit out of my league - Hence my sincere interest, and generally a hot topic among CAs.
  4. This might be a little of the subject of using the Weiss DAC 202 as power amp on head phones, but I am really interested in hearing from other user experiences of this DAC directly with a power amp.

I received my Weiss DAC 202 only 4 days ago (burning in night and day) and as you can see from the below equip. list, I have plugged it directly in my power amp. And man, it sounds GREAT.

I noticed another thread (called Audio Research DAC 8) where these two mentioned DACs were compared, but it has not yet summed up on use directly connected to a PA.

So please share your findings on the this matter
