  1. I did, but it is not exactly the clearest way, a fact that is maybe evidenced by all the people who have gone astray doing so. Figured some advance warnings might help. Thanks. H
  2. Hi. I am using JRiver 16. I have filled my notebook with music and want to transfer the files to a larger external drive. The internet seems to be littered with people who have gone astray moving files with his player. Having (maybe fixed) a major problem I was having with my settings, I would love some advance help before I attempt this. Can I just move the files, then go to file, library, and "clear library?" Then auto import my files from a the new location on the external drive? Seems easy, no? Maybe not. Thanks!
  3. Tried and it doesn't work. Are using Wasapi or Wasapi event style.? Says not compatible format. Any place I could look up the recommended settings? Thx H
  4. Hi Bill Thanks very much. Will give it a try when I get home tonight from work. Howard
  5. I am using JRiver 16 with an outboard dac. I altered my settings as per these instructions: http://wiki.jriver.com/index.php/DAC_Settings. For the the sample rate setting it says under DSP Studio: "Sample rate: Depends (with an outboard DAC, try "Source sample rate"." However. there is no option to choose "Source sample rate," only spefic Khz (e.g., 88,96 , 192, etc.). Now my files only play if the file is the same sample rate as that whch i selected. Anybody can help? Thanks so much!
  6. Oh, those remotes look like they will do the trick. will check them out, thank you!
  7. Thanks for the responses guys. So for remote desktop, I take it that I don't use a dedicated remote control, but rather another computer such as a laptop? If you do this, can you remotely see the JRiver player on the audio system laptop? Thanks.
  8. I am running JRiver on a Windows 7 netbook. Until I get my Mac house in order, I would like to use a remote control that will operate JRiver. (I have seen some that purport to operate Windows Media Player.) Unfortunately, I also have a phone that has a Windows-based operating system. Accordingly, an app that works on only Android or Mac and let's you use your phone as a remote, is not an option. I am open to using hardware (a dedicated remote control) or software (for my Windows phone). Thanks so much.
  9. Hi All, I am using Foobar 2000 and Windows 7. I have a habit of transferring my laptop from my system into a pair of powered speakers in an other room. Sometimes--like now--when I do so, Foobar stops outputting any sound, although it is apparently reading the file. All other sounds (Windows bootup and close down sounds, instant messenger, etc.) come out of my laptop and into the powered speakers or my system depending on hookup. But nothing at all from Foobar. I cannot get Foobar to work at all this time despite messing with every audio control, including enabling and disabling the device in the windows control panel. Any ideas? Also, has the experience been that JRiver will sound better than Foobar? Thanks so much!
  10. Hi Guys, Thanks for all the replies. Very informative posts which aer much appreciated. I think I am going to stick with a pre for now. But maybe one day,,,, Walter
  11. Hi. I am sure this has come up before. But do you really need a preamp? Aside from any coloration issues, when connecting a DAC directly to an amp, did anyone find that it sounded better? How would you tell if there is an impedance issue when doing so? Just some questions I am curious about. Thanks. Walt
