  1. Click on Subscribe where? I've looked all over the server app, the orastream and brio web pages, etc. No clue.
  2. It doesn't do ISO, you have to start with .dff files. I've never really looked at the metadata, I tag the flacs with MusicBrainz Picard.
  3. A tool was created that can modify tags on a flac file to make the blue light on a Pono light up... https://github.com/eehmke/flactag/releases There are some dependencies and it is a command line tool so it isn't for everybody, but the method is pretty straightforward. There is a tag that is a hash of the album/track name that needs to be there.
  4. I would have to do some hunting to see if I had a hybrid SACD with a dual-layer SACD section but the Wikipedia article says that even a single-layer SACD could not be hybrid. That is false. Every SACD is either single-layer or dual-layer (on the DVD encoded SACD "layer") so there are obviously Hybrid Single-layer SACDs. The confusion is that the word "layer" is being used by people for two things. CD layer vs. SACD layer, and single-layer vs. dual-layer SACD (as in single-layer vs. dual-layer DVD). Two different things an unfortunate name confusion. [follow up] I went back to the wikipedia article and it does seem to indicate that Hybrid only works with "single-layer SACD (4.7 DVD)" layers. So it does all make sense. I don't believe now that a Hybrid Multi-layer SACD exists. In any event, it is confusing terminology and trying to agree on what it all means is kind of pointless so let's move on.
  5. That wikipedia description isn't written well. Single or Dual layer refers only to the SACD component of the disc and should have nothing to do with whether or not there is a CD "layer". Hybrid describes that a disc has both CD and SACD layers. Single/Dual layer describes the SACD layer and is should not relate to whether or not it works on a CD player.
  6. Cool, if it is spec'd to be so, I guess they do.
  7. Exactly. Not sure about saying "it starts at the stereo area". They are just files, the order/layout of them on the disc is probably not defined. You are right on about the CAV theory. The speed differences (speeding up near then end, slowing down after a layer change as the read head moves back in) are precisely what one would see with a disc spinning at a constant velocity. So, I don't think we are seeing any kind of network bottleneck, etc. the bottleneck is the speed that the player is spinning the disc.
  8. It compares the peak to the average (a simplification but close enough), which looking at your pictures makes sense. It isn't a measure of the total dynamic range (loudest to softest).
  9. He is saying there is a 1% chance that someone will randomly be correct. He isn't saying that 1% of people could pass the test 100% of the time.
  10. Doesn't sound relevant to this SACD ripping thread, maybe start a new one for your questions?
  11. If you rip with software that uses AccurateRip to verify the results you can be assured you got a perfect rip every time. I wouldn't be surprised if someone creates an MD5 hash database of SACD iso's which would allow for the same kind of verification.
  12. Doesn't make any sense at all to me. They should sound exactly the same (and I am sure they would to me). I'm sticking with Apple Lossless and flac since I can't hear anything wrong with them.
  13. Neat little tip for the Oppo 103 (and I assume the other Oppos). If you go to Setup Menu -> Device Setup -> Standby Mode and set it to "Quick Start", there is no need to reinsert the USB drive every time you turn on the Oppo. I guess it goes into a sleep mode much like a laptop should and the sacd_extract process will still be running when it starts back up. The only time you would need to reinsert the USB stick would be if it lost power.
  14. It is, so going forward one wants to be careful. But reports are that the beta firmware you referenced doesn't affect it. Probably will take a little while for the hole be plugged.
