I just joined and have been reading some of the posts but am having a hard time putting the big picture together. I have a cambridge 540A running Canton speakers and a paradigm sub. I want to build a server with a DAC. My aim is to store all my music on the computer, access via mouse or touch-screen. I am planning on doing it using Linux, hopefully doing the whole thing for under $800.
1) For the DAC, should I be looking at a motherboard, soundcard or external DAC?
2) Should I be looking at cables or wireless?
