I replied to a post 'GNU/Linux and bit-perfect audio?' At the end I included a direct link to the Linux section of my side and it has been removed. Obvious the post has been edited by Chris. Goodbye

The differences between various lossless formats are to small for me to be audible. Differences in sample rate are hard to test as the Behringer USB probably resamples everything to 48kHz.

A distro like Ubuntu comes in various flavors - full install - dual boot - boot from CD without any install. I have a laptop in dual boot mode, installing this was very easy Check the Ubuntu website

If you use a distro like Ubuntu, it is very much like working with Win. In my case, the onboard sound card worked straight out of the box. Getting my USB DAC to work required a lot of time. In the end in turned out that the combination of Pulseaudio and ALSA was prohibitive. After removing Pulse I finally got the USB audio to work. A lot of Linux media players are build with pop music in mind. No support for the composer tag. In general the interface design leaves much to be desired for. I can't hear any difference in sound quality between Linux/MPD and Vista/WMP.

That’s why I hang around at forums to long and to often, now and then there is a little gem, a guy who measures instead of talking opinions.

Volume using USB PS Audio DAC III
Roseval replied to mikeps73's topic in DAC - Digital to Analog Conversion
As the signal is to loud, a simple solution might be to buy a passive attenuator. http://www.dact.com/html/attenuators.html or http://www.tcelectronic.com/levelpilot.asp -
There is a nice post by Juergen about the impact of various drivers: http://www.computeraudiophile.com/content/Tagging-AIFF-MS-Windows-world#comment-13946 Juli@ has a good reputation, RME is probably the European equivalent of the Lynx

Seems to be a good DAC but I can't stand the special lacquered spruce board. http://www.jitter.de/ is another site by Altmann
