Cambridge DacMagic 100
blueheronhollow replied to blueheronhollow's topic in DAC - Digital to Analog Conversion
Thanks for the info. I too would be using it via the USB input, which is asynchronous, and supposedly better than adaptive. I've heard that improving the PS on the regular DacMagic also produces much better results, so hopefully the same thing will happen with the 100. -
Hi Everyone, I just noticed that Cambridge have another version of the DacMagic, the 100. It seems very interesting and the specs and price seem very good. Does anyone have any experience with it? It is very new so there is very little out there as far as reviews, etc. Thanks!

I'm surprised this is a recommended component when it doesn't handle the 88 sample rate. -
DAC Upgrade for headphone setup?

I'll check out the Audiolab - hopefully its price is similar to the MF. Does any one out there have any experience with the Audiolab MDAC? -
DAC Upgrade for headphone setup?
blueheronhollow replied to blueheronhollow's topic in DAC - Digital to Analog Conversion
Anyone? -
Hi All, I am thinking of upgrading my desktop headphone setup, which currently consists of an HRT Music Streamer II+ (previous generation, not the latest), a Burson HA-160 headphone amplifier, feeding ATH-AD900 headphones. I'm feeding this via my 2010 MacBook Pro 15" laptop with a Kimber USB cable. I really like the sound, but am wondering if upgrading to something like the new Musical Fidelity M1DAC ( or maybe a Burson DAC) would improve the sound. Does anyone have a similar setup, or thoughts on upgrading?
-
Hello All, Has anybody heard the new M1DAC from MF? I understand it now has the VLINK built in, and sounds smoother than the previous version. Sam Tellig of Stereophile reviews the new VDAC favorably in January's edition. I would also love to hear any thoughts on the new Dac Magic+ by Cambridge. Cheers, Ian

2.0 DAC with Balanced Outputs
blueheronhollow replied to Marcus1320's topic in DAC - Digital to Analog Conversion
Hi, I have a Presonus Firebox, which is one of their Firewire recording boxes that does 96/24. I've had it for a couple of years, and it cost around $350 I think at the time. It sounds great, and competes very well with my HRT Streamer+. I'm not sure how it compares with the model you listed, but their stuff is very highly regarded. Cheers, Ian -
Audez'e LCD-2 at the office?
blueheronhollow replied to adamskogman's topic in Headphones & Speakers
I like Denon's line of closed back headphones. I use the AH-D2000, which sound great in my opinion. You can also look at the 5000 and 7000 which cost more, but have more bass impact. http://www.headphone.com/headphones/denon-ah-d2000.php http://www.headphone.com/headphones/denon-ah-d5000.php http://www.headphone.com/headphones/denon-ah-d7000.php Cheers, Ian -

New MacBook Pro This Week?

I doubt SSDs will become the default drives, but I'm sure it'll be an option, just like it is for the current MBP.
