1. I think that was answered in A40 A40. First you can see Morten’s notes about this recording here: https://shop.klicktrack.com/2l/468051. Morten wanted to do some minor touch-up on the recording. So, in order that nuance would not be lost, we used our ingestion process to give him 24-bit stems. The simple answer is that the re-release was remastered at 24-bit. The MQA file is made from that new 44.1/24 new master. Had he remastered strictly in a 16-bit context, some original magic might have been lost, but the file would have been smaller.7 In the 2L catalogue there are examples of MQA from 44.1/16 that were not remastered in this way.
 2. That is not how many "reviews" are comparing the units. Even here in the Conclusion section it is noted: "The sound quality of a single stereo unit can be as good or better than many of the industry’s traditional behemoth systems." There is no indication that the comparisons are only against similarly priced units. I agree that the Devialet units are fine products and have accomplished quite a bit.
 3. My local dealer called me in to hear their 800's after they came back in from an audition at one of their customers. They did not use SAM during my audition but we did try the unit(s) with both the digital connected directly to the unit and from the analog out of their MSB Dac. They sound was pretty good especially when you consider what you save on power cords and interconnects let alone the pricing of a separate DAC and pre-amp. That said based on MY audition the 800 is not yet capable of competing with many of the better separate set-ups available today. On that day the comparison was the Soulution integrated. If I was to consider a second 2-channel set-up Devialet would be considered.
 4. I would just like more current music released in HD. Most of what is out there is re-releases of old music that I listened to years ago.
 5. I downloaded Madman Across The Water the other day and it does sound very good. Surely a lot better than the tic and pops on my vinyl version I have owned forever. I already have the SACD of Yellow Brink Road so I am not looking for a HD version of that one.
 6. My choices for Best New Albums I purchased in 2010 would be: 1) Mumford & Sons - Sigh No More This is one of the better debt albums I have ever purchased. 2) Amy MacDonald - This Is The Life I just found her 2008 debut album this year, this years follow up "A Curious Thing" isn't bad either. 3) Antony and the Johnsons - Antony and the Johnsons Not every track is great but his soaring vocals on some are special. Check out "River of Sorrow" on Rhapsody. 4) Katherine Jenkins - The Ultimate Collection Popera may not suit everyones tastes, but I bought 5 of her discs this year. 5) Richard Hawley - False Lights From The Land Only an EP but I buy everything this guy puts out. 7. I was less impressed by the TAD- Bel Canto ball room than I was with the same TAD speakers driven by the Technical Brain gear on the 5th floor. Of course since the Be Canto's probably cost a 10th of the TB gear we shouldn't be surprised.

I agree the Magico room was always crowded, always hot and when I was there playing way too much organ music. I need a other go around with those speakers.
 8. Thanks for the photos. What is your point? Why would you think audio is different from automobiles, watches, wine etc. What one pays for a product has little to so with the Bill Of Materials. These are not cost plus businesses.
 9. I have seen the reviews of your unit and they have been generally very favorable. I have not yet heard the unit and so I cannot comment on the sound. Keeping the signal in the digital domain all the way to the speakers works very well for Meridian.
 10. You think by adding you only take away. Without a quality pre-amp you are missing all of the micro details, they are there but often hidden in "noise". A quality pre-amp will allow you to have significantly better control over the gain/attenuation. A balanced pre-amp can maintain channel separation and have s/n ratios over 120db.

Everything we add to our system impacts the sound from cables, interconnects, power conditioners, pre-amps to source components. The old adage of Strait Wire with Gain isn't going to make the sound more pleasing to the ear.
 11. Chris
I am very surprised at the results in your review of the D-07 since they are very different from what I have experienced. I have owned my unit for over three months now and I would have to say it is the best DAC that I have had in my system. The soundstage is wider and deeper and seems to pull more detail than earlier DAC's I have owned from Cary, McIntosh, Wadia, Musical Fidelity (Tri-Vista), Weiss and Benchmark.

I really cannot comment on the USB connection since I use my unit with dedicated music servers or CD transports with RCA or XLR outputs. I do prefer the S_DLY and 4FS settings for each of the inputs.

I am not sure how long you had the review sample but my unit did not open up and begin get the most out of the low end until I played it for about a month. It is now the only piece of gear I do not power off unless I am gone for extended periods.

After re-reading the review it looks like you did not run the D-07 thru a pre-amp. I think you would be surprised what a quality pre-amp adds to the equation and that goes for any DAC.
