  1. I just received my new Small Green Computer Sonic Orbiter player. I have installed it where my Vortexbox was. My computer sees the Sonic Orbiter as a media device but not as a computer preventing me from accessing the file structure to move my music. I have no trouble accessing the Sonic Orbiter GUI from my browser. I have tried everything I know, so there must be something I don't know involved. Any help will be greatly appreciated.
  2. OK, so I am an idiot. How do you convert .dff DSD files to .dsf DSD files in Jriver? All it seems to want to do is open and play files. Since there is no real help function and I am apparently incompetent I need someone's help to do this. Thanks
  3. Is it possible to output rips to two different file paths simultaneously when ripping in dBpoweramp CD ripper? I would like to be able to write to my Sonore Digital server and my backup HDD (drive F) with a single rip and not have to copy files back and forth. I haven't been able to figure out what the path string would look like if this can be done.
  4. Datman- saw your occupation and am a coffee fanatic.

    Where are you roasting??

I live in Milwaukee and have been getting beans through Tonx in LA

  5. Recently, my Windows 8.1 computer stopped seeing my Sonore server as a network device. I can access mpd and vortexbox by ip address. I can't get to the files folder over the network to add additional music files. I haven't been able to figure out how and why this happened. I need to get this back as I have a lot of music to copy over. Thanks
  6. I just finished having my Sonore Server and Wyred 4 Sound DAC upgraded to play DSD files. I have been told I need to install MPD to do this. My problem is I don't know HOW to install the software and set it up once it is installed. Oh the joys of being a neophyte! I would need a fairly detailed explanation as this is all Greek to me. Thanks.
  7. I am glad they are able to do this. But having said this remember there is a sucker born every minute. Ridiculously expensive coffees are like cocaine; it's God's way of telling you that you have too damn much money!
  8. I have been a professional coffee roaster for the past 20 years. I got into this when I found out the restaurant business is even more insane than IT. There is nothing like being in the addictive drug business! I used to work in IT before the dawn of the PC. My computer skills are so old that I can program in Fortran, Cobol and here's one not a lot of people know about; MUMPS, a high volume transaction based language for medial laboratory use. It ran on DEC/Data General computers.
  9. I have a large collection of cd's ripped onto a hard drive with dBpoweramp. I need to convert these files to another format and write the resulting files to a different hard drive. I have not been able to figure out how to do this and have dBpoweramp write the converted files with their appropriate folders on the new drive. I can get the files, but NOT the folders. There must be a setting that I have missed. If someone out there knows how to do this, please let me know.
  10. I have about 1.2 Tb of music ripped at FLAC Level 1. Does anyone know about how much larger the files would be in uncompressed FLAC? I have to decide if I need a larger drive than I currently have or should just use FLAC level 0.
  11. I am now in the process of re-ripping my 3500 CD library. This puts a tremendous amount of stress on my DVD drive. Does anyone know of a particularly robust internal DVD drive that won't quit because of a heavy load. I want to have one for backup because I know I will go through at least one drive during this process.
  12. As a newcomer to this forum I am im pressed by the obvious passion of its members. I have no idea what this passion is about, but it is there. Passion however, does not answer my original question; FLAC vs WAV. Information does. Throughout this discourse a significant amount of information has been presented. I have decided to rip FLAC at a low level (probably 2 or 3) for two reasons. The first is the better facility FLAC has for tagging. Since tagging is the primary reason for this epic re-do, this is a priority. The first 600 or 700 cd's were ripped with EAC. I subsequently switched to dBpoweramp for the remaining 2500 cd's. I scewed up the original file creation settings and wound up nesting some files so deep 256 characters is not enough space to hold the file name/path. This makes it impossible for dBpoweramp to find the album name to check for duplicates. I still find duplicates regularly. Sonically, I have not had any problems with FLAC. My Sonore Server seems to handle this with no problem.
  13. My new Sonore Music server is so good that it highlights the problems with a lot of my early rips. I have reached the point where I am going to re-rip my entire library, all 3000 cd's worth, to fix the problems once and for all. I have even purchased a new drive to do this. My question is, do I rip in FLAC or WAV? Disk space is not a problem. Are there meaningful sound quality differences between the two? I am not clear as to whether or not tagging in WAV is as successful as tagging FLAC files. Picking up the album art and song details are one of the reasons I am going to go through with this pain in the ass solution.
  14. What you say about I2S may be true. However, isn't USB also not a standard audio interface? I know it wasn't developed with audio in mind. As a result I would guess that USB has its own limitations.
  15. Yes I am using the I2S interface. It is the reason I purchased the Wyred 4 Sound DAC-2. I figure the Cardas cable Simple Designs supplies with the Sonore is more than adequate. Adrian said the Signature Power Supply is especially noticable with the I2S buss and I wholeheartedly agree.
