  1. I’m using the LUMIN app on my iPad, to control my ultraRendu. It works playing the content on my NAS, but while I can login to my Qobuz account from the ultraRendu Options page in LUMIN, I cannot seem to get the functionality to work through LUMIN. When I click on the widgets, nothing happens. When I try to do a Search in Qobuz, no results appear. Use Local Network is selected for the app on my iPad. My main page looks like this
  2. Interesting. That would in theory suggest the 192/24 would be preferred, but to your point it may not bring anything more to the table given the limitations in the source.
  3. I'm not real good at interpreting the info coming out of something like Musicscope, but I see kumakuma has taken a shot at this. I suspect even if they did the A/D off the analog at 96/24 that wouldn't stop them from offering a 192/24, which they do. But I would certainly agree that if the analog was pulled at 96/24 I wouldn't see much use in getting anything better than that. kumakuma, thanks. It looks like you ran this against one of the 192/24 tracks. Hmm, I wish I knew how to interpret this stuff better.
  4. It's available in High Res on HDTracks and Acoustic Sounds, but there's no information (as often happens) on how the release was originally captured to digital. It's also available on CD, so if the analog source (assuming that's what was used) was captured using a HR ADC (I have to believe nowadays it would have to be) I would like to know whether it was in either the 192 or 96 being offered for download. Anyone know?
  5. I just found out my DAC needs the Master Clock from an I2S server in order for the client side on the DAC to work properly. Near as I can make out that means the Pi even in its latest form is a no-go. For me, a SOTA server with Ethernet in and I2S out (DAC not needed) would be great, assuming it could handle up to DXD / DSD128.
  6. This may have already been discussed in another thread, but has anyone made an I2S output for the Raspberry Pi with its own precision clock?
  7. Sorry if I missed this, but is there any indication that this could support DSD128?
  8. Glad to see your review, Ted. I was one of the people here who mentioned this DAC (IME) needed at least 500 hours to come into its own. While I do not have the Signature Rendu, I do use the I2S input with my PWT. I've spent quite a lot of time listening to this, and the SPDIF and Ethernet (PS Audio's Bridge) inputs. After lengthy burn in I can say that I also believe the I2S input is better (if forced to pick one), but the differences between it and the other inputs I use are very very slight. For all intents and purposes not large enough to change my feeling about how great this DAC sounds regardless of input. While you clearly rated the DS highly using I2S, other than ordering the inputs against I2S, the review leaves it a bit unclear (to me) how you rate the goodness of the DAC for the likely majority of listeners who will not be using I2S. Your thoughts appreciated.
  9. That has been corrected with FW version 1.2.1. Thanks to JA's measurements Ted Smith found an algorithmic bug in some of the math which affected the bottom 2 LSBs. While no new measurements have been published both Ted and Paul have indicated this issue has been addressed. It does turn out with this FW there is a noticeable increase in clarity of the low end and just a surprising improvement in sound overall. Al, I also do not think the DS is warm in my system. I find it very natural and extended in both directions without it sounding like there's any sort of preference for the lower midrange or upper bass. I find it very nicely in line with the frequent live classical, acoustic jazz. and singing I hear every year.
  10. Good stuff. Hope you can still get the review out before RMAF! Been looking forward to it.
  11. Ted, before you post the review (how's that for giving you more time! :-) ), swing over to the PS Audio website and pick up the latest FW, released today. It's, um... a bit of an improvement.
  12. I'm wondering how one would perceive the review if the measurements were better? Since it's already been mentioned elsewhere, JA's measurements did in fact identify a bug in the FW which was causing some corruption in the LSBs (the last couple, I think) under certain conditions. It has since been fixed by Ted and (according to info available on PS Audio's own forums) corrects the corruption of the sinewave and the resolution of the 24 bit tone. It has not yet been released. Personally I'm in no rush to get it since the current FW sounds tremendous and it seems all of this concern about the poor measurements and Ted's fixing of same seems to have no audible impact on the sound. Based on my experience so far with the DS and Ted's observations matching my own, I take what he's saying as being above board. While my engineer's hat would love to see cleaner measurements, the apparent inaudibility of fixing the same suggests what we see shouldn't necessarily bias what we read in the review.
  13. Hi Ben-M. Yes I'm a virtual unknown here, although ted_b should recognize me from Audiocircle. I've been streaming via PC since the Squeezebox days so I really should be more present on a great site like this. I've certainly lurked and read tons from here. I can't speak to input cables since I use either the PWT (via I2s) or Ethernet to the Bridge for my PWD and now DS. I was using Acoustic Zen Absolute Silver XLR ICs for the PWD to my preamp. I thought they were a great match - much better than the others that I did try including the Shunyata Zitron Pythons. I would have recommended them for anyone else's "try" list if they had a PWD, with the usual caution of YMMVIYOS ("in your own system"). I found the AZ Silver to be a bit grainy with the DS, and found them also to be a less than ideal match in the upper mids and low treble... listening was a bit harsh in this range. The low end, however, was killer with this IC - articulate, deep, and powerful. Taken as a complete picture it was not as musical a combination as it is with the PWD. While it did complicate my listening to the DS during its own burn in, it became obvious after the first few hundred hours that the ICs were not the best match. I've been running three different ICs with the DS for the past few hundred hours. My method during trial is to keep them undisclosed until I've made my own choice; it's easier for me to focus and choose without different opinions about the same ICs perhaps producing different results under other conditions in someone else's systems. At the moment I can say that any of the three are a better match for the DS in my system than my previous IC. Hoping to close on a choice among these three by the end of the week.
  14. Hi Ted. I don't often post here but I can corroborate (IME) what ErikM said earlier. The DS will take (as I said on the PSA forums) "somewhere between 0 and 500 hours" :-) before any follow on changes become minor. This is with evaluation using my "20-30 minutes every 100 hours or so" new equipment listening method. In addition you may wish to be prepared to select the right IC when you do the formal review. The IC I was using with my PWD Mk.II was not in any way the correct match for the DS. I was a little surprised by that.
  15. Hi ted_b! Any additional impressions you have would be greatly appreciated. If you relate perhaps with regard to some of the specific music you heard?
