  1. I just loaded the new version today and the detail and openness of the sound is still the best. Ready to buy when you are. Thanks! BTW, I have a QB9 & 2010 mac pro - no issues. Regards, Gus
  2. I completed my setup of a macbook pro, QB9 and Amarra Mini. For now, I have an iomega external drive for the music (usb) - firewire drive soon. I've tweaked everything I've read about on this forum (and Amarra & Ayre) and it sounds as good or better than my CXE7mp - very pleased. However, I'm looking for advice on a few settings: - I have the QB9 set to the lower USB dip setting. This allows me to connect it to an isolated USB bus (not the high speed). If I set the QB9 dip switch to the USB 2.0 setting it will connect to the high speed bus but will have to share with iSight. It seems to sound better on the slower, isolated USB bus - would that be the general recommendation? - What is recommended for the Amarra Dither and Word Length settings? I've set the dither playback on and the word length to 24bit. Is this best? I only have 16/44 music. - The Amarra EQ setting don't seem to do much - is that common? - I haven't setup the "renice" script - does it make a big difference? Thanks much in advance. Gus
  3. Hi - The QB9/mac setup I used to test was as good with some music and better with most. It was an older mini mac with a usb ext drive. It also was running Amarra mini and a Transparent USB cable. That test convinced me the QB9/mac was the way to go. If it didn't sound as good/better than your cxe7mp, there's more tweaking you most likely need to do. Gus
  4. I appreciate the insight and I now realize I have some more research to do. I found some more posts on macbook pro and usb ports. Anyway, thanks again. Gus
  5. Thanks Eloise - good to know. How did you find that out? I would assume the macbook pro wouldn't be any worse than a mini with keyboard and mouse attached via USB. I think I'll not go the bluetooth route. I still have an open mind and have not purchased anything yet, but I'm still leaning towards macbook pro for the convenience and the ability to run it on battery. Sound quality is still my 1st priority. Unfortunately, I'm not hearing there is a clear, best choice. I currently own an Ayre CXE-7MP and I just want it to sound as good or better. I performed an AB/AB test between the CXE7 and a mini mac/QB9. I preferred the mini mac/QB9. The safe choice would be a mini mac as I've already heard it, but I can't imagine a huge difference with the macbook pro. Thanks for the info. Gus
  6. Thanks all for the feedback! Sounds like there is no clear winner. My primary objective is sound quality. Assuming they both sound the same (close anyways), at this time I'm leaning towards the macbook pro because I can power it via battery and I don't have to add anything (I.E. mouse, monitor, keyboard) on the USB bus other than the USB to the QB9. I'll definitely add a solid-state disk to the mac pro config, but I can also add one to the mini so that's not a major point. I will run an external drive via firewire and hopefully a drive that does not need external power. I aslo like the fact that I have everything in one unit in the mac pro. Thanks again! Gus
  7. Hi - I'm new to this website. I've ordered a QB9 and now need to decide on a Mac Mini or a MacBook Pro. Cost aside, does one work better with the QB9? Also, I've read some of the posts about Amarra and the QB9. I plan to live without it at first. Any new thoughts on that would also be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Gus
