  1. Sorry to interupt thread, I seem to be having trouble with Audirvana+ 1.5.10 setup with the DSD mode on the Dac. Looking at the Audirvana preferences setup - there is no DSD setting showing up. They are grayed out. I see the Native DSD capability pull down, and leave it at automatic. The unit plays, but just outputs at USB352K. The files were imported using the DSD import method previously. Can anyone point me in the right direction? Pure Music just locks up.
  2. Steve, I agree with most of your commments, they hold true via USB as well. I would not say rounded, but smooth and warm and good seperation of instruments is my experience as well. The soundstage also had more depth to it than a modified Denon 2900. I am very happy with it. Still working on getting a TT to sound so pleasant.
  3. 57Gold. Do you have a reference recording you might suggest to test on? I might have something in my collection I can review for you folks, but want to make sure it's something easily available. There are a few 24/96 free files about to test, from 2L or HDtracks. Then maybe other users can test this. The one thing the tranquility dac doesn't do is high bit rate files, so not comparing apples to apples. Tea-Bag
  4. That's supposed to be the way, but I need two outputs (bi-amped) in my current setup. I'll ask Ej about going out with both balanced and unbalanced to see if that works. I think so. I need some cabling and adapters to do that. Of course, as a long term solution, not using the phono and 2900 once in awhile may subtract from overall audio experience.
  5. I have bought a w4s Dac2 I can compare to a USB NOS DAC by Peter Daniel design, and Dennon DVD-2900 Modified by Modwright back in 2004 that has Sowther output transformers. Dan had it back in the shop recently when it crapped out. Once fixed, he and his tech's thought it sounded exceptional. So- Denon DVD, very musical. Sounstage is good, but not well depth defined. Wide soundstage. Bass is probably a bit better. Impressive sounding, but likely not balanced. This costed more than the Dac2. USBNOSDAC- Kind of analogish sounding. Midrange heavy, top end marginal. Never in love with it. wyred4sound Dac 2-Very precise imaging compared to either of the above. This means that I can hear different voices and instruments in space, and not all splattered together. It's not full on solid state sounding. It's got a extended, but champagne flavor to the sound.Sparkly top end, but not at all over emphasized. I think it's the most honest sounding piece I own. Can you hear a difference in 24 bit vs 16 bit files? Yes, but it's not night and day for me. 96vs192k, no, cant tell a difference, but maybe I have fairly tin ears. I run them into Firstwatt clone amps and lowther PM5A's. I live in So. ME, so if someone in the boston area want's a listen, let me know. I work in Andover, MA, and can drive anywhere close by.
