  1. Answering my own question.. for what I need... Apple makes a $49 Lightning Dock that 3.5mm analog audio out I'm quite sure within a few months, Fleabay will have numerous amounts of Made in China solutions!
  2. Notice the image I posted? That unit that you are talking about would supply an ANALOG out put! I'm looking the DIGITAL OUT from the phone and have something aka a DAC (Digital to Analog Converter) that I can power both my phone and the DAC at the same time... The DragonFly is a good solution, but expensive... the question again is for a Lo-Fi option to replace the DragonFly! I hope this clarifies the issue! Thank you!
  3. Greetings, I own a Bryston BDA-1 on my main rig... love it I own a MF V-DAC on my headphone rig... love it I own a Pimoroni pHat DAC running off a Raspberry Pi ZERO my $60 home made Bathroom system... freakin' love it! Wait, the Pi was $5 and the pHat DAC was $15! The sound is surprisingly good... and that got me thinking... With the new iPhone 7 ditching the headphone jack, I began looking at Lightning to DAC solutions.. Sure get the USB 3 Camera adapter and an Audioquest Dragonfly and you are off to the races... um, The Dragonfly is $100! Is there no other alternative?

  5. Must admit I'm a little confused with your methodology ripping both AIFF and FLAC! AIFF is uncompressed where as FLAC uses compression albeit Lossless! For play back and archiving AIFF is all you need! just my 2c!
  6. I honestly thought reading the blurb MF wrote about the V-Link that it would indeed automatically read the sample rate! "The solution to this problem is asynchrony. Simply put the receiving device instructs the computer to give it data (via its USB output) at whatever rate it has been stored on the computer disc. This is a big change. Now an audiophile can be confident that the data received from his computer is genuinely high quality and unfailingly consistent. Perfect!"
  7. Thank you for killing the dream of having a simple box that would read the source's sample rate and bit rate correctly without the need of additional buggy software! Here are some kittens for you to drown too!* * for those devoid of a sense of humour... move along!
  8. I'll freely admit for a long time now I had no idea why these USB to SDPIF units where being made. That is to say as happy Mac user, we can output 96/24 via the built in optical. After a bit of casual reading it dawned on me that the whole ASYCHRONOUS side of it suddenly made blinding sense! So, before I hit the Buy It Now for one of these units, I have a question that hopefully can be answered! 1. With the V-Link being fed from my Mac Mini's USB, will my Bryston BDA-1 now light up correctly to the sample being sent? i.e. when I send 44.1, the 44.1 LED lights up and when I send 48 and 96, their lights light up correctly? 2. What will happen when I send 192/24? Does the unit limit it to 96/24?
  9. Nigel, Thanks for the response, That's exactly the answer I was hoping for! I'm pretty much tempted to pre-order one right now... But will wait a for review from you! Thanks! Drew
  10. Chris, Yeah, I know the Express is a router/repeater little wonder! I just do not use those elements and already have a friend interested in getting my Express if I get the ATV. I have an Airport Extreme (Dual-band 802.11N) doing the router/wi-fi duty right now! I really like the setup via the Airport Utilize right now, but I don't think setting up the ATV via a TV is going to be any different... I mean, once it's setup.. it's done! I just want that seamless function I have now, where I can click on the task bar in iTunes and feed my music to either my computer or Express or both! It's a a little annoying that Apple has not yet posted a manual for the new piece, but I understand they might want to release it first!
  11. Greetings, Been very happy thus far with my Airport Express running the digital out to my Bryston BDA-1 I like how the Express just shows up in my iTunes and it just plain works! The forthcoming Apple TV has me very interested... streaming the movies on my Mac to it is prefect! My question is, will the ATV work in the same way my Express does now?
  12. Although there is another thread talking about this, I'd like to answer you here... Try AudioQuest... they make Firewire cables using solid copper with welded ends, not soldered! http://audioquest.com/ sadly they do not make FW800, only FW400, so an adapter will be required
  13. I was running USB out of my Mac Mini into a Musical Fidelity V-DAC.... into my heaphone amp! Then I recently tried a high quality quartz optical cable out and to my surprise.... could not really tell a difference! I'd say go with USB based on my findings.... but take into consideration that this is my headphone rig... Have not tried it through my main sound system... as the saying goes.. YMMW! Enjoy!
  14. 10.6.1 - ITunes 9 and the latest Remote App running on an iphone 3g with 3.1 OS... artist's that are list as part of compilations... show up just fine for me! but i get what you are asking for.... for me, i find it to not be an issue!
